1. Only kids get cavities: Adults can get cavities too, especially as gums recede and expose more vulnerable parts of the teeth.
2. Sugar is the only cause of cavities: Cavities are caused by bacteria feeding on all carbs (not just sugar) and producing acid that damages enamel.
3. If it doesn’t hurt, it’s not a cavity: Cavities often develop silently, and pain usually only appears once the decay is more advanced.
4. Brushing harder cleans better: Brushing too hard can wear down enamel and irritate gums, increasing the risk of damage rather than preventing it.
