🧠 Stroke 101: What You Need to Know
A stroke is a type of brain injury. Symptoms vary depending on the area affected, but survivors often experience weakness on one side, or difficulties with movement, speech, or thinking.
Types of stroke:
Ischemic stroke: Most common. A blood clot or narrowed vessel reduces blood flow to the brain, causing cells to die from lack of oxygen.
Hemorrhagic stroke: A blood vessel bursts and leaks into the brain, causing damage.
Who’s at risk?
Strokes are more common in people 65+, but they can happen at any age.
TIA = Warning sign
A Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA) looks like a stroke but lasts a few hours or up to a day and doesn’t cause permanent damage. It’s a serious warning—seek treatment to prevent a future stroke.
