*PUBLIC WARNING:* SCAM INVOLVING FAKE EMPLOYMENT OFFERS IN THE NORTH WEST DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH

The North West Department of Health has been alerted to a fraudulent scam targeting unemployed doctors and health professionals, including individuals who have recently attended interviews for posts within the Department.

Reports indicate that an individual, falsely claiming to be affiliated with the North West Department of Health and allegedly operating from the Provincial Office in Mahikeng, is making direct phone calls to job seekers and offering permanent employment in exchange for money, with amounts reportedly *ranging up to R20 000, payable upfront*.

The Department wishes to unequivocally state that:
• ❌ *The North West Department of Health does not charge any fee* for employment, interviews, placement, or appointment into any post.
• ❌ *No official or employee of the Department is authorised to solicit money*, favours, or payments of any kind in exchange for employment.
• ❌ *All recruitment processes are conducted transparently* and through official Departmental channels only.

Members of the public are strongly warned that any request for payment linked to a job offer is a scam and should be treated as a criminal act.

The Department is deeply concerned that the scammer appears to be contacting individuals directly, possibly using information related to recent interviews, and is urging potential victims to act quickly. This is a common tactic used by scammers to pressure victims into making hasty decisions.

The public, and doctors in particular, are advised to:
• 🚫 *Not pay any money* to anyone claiming they can secure employment within the Department.
• 🚫 *Not share personal information*, banking details, or copies of identification documents.
• 📞 *Verify all employment-related communication* through official North West Department of Health platforms.
• 🚔 *Report the matter immediately to the South African Police Service (SAPS)* if contacted or if money has already been requested or transferred.

The North West Department of Health is treating this matter with seriousness and urges all job seekers to remain vigilant. The Department will continue to communicate through official platforms and encourages the public to share this warning widely to prevent further victimisation.

*ALL SYSTEMS RESTORED AFTER FLOODING AT TSHEPONG HOSPITAL*

Date: 27 January 2026

*Klerksdorp -* The North West Department of Health wishes to provide an update following an incident of flooding at the Tshepong Hospital in Jouberton that occurred yesterday evening between 19:00 and 20:00.

The flooding affected parts of the Emergency Department (Casualty), Outpatient Department and the Radiology Department. Immediately after the incident, the Hospital Disaster Management Plan was activated, resulting in a swift and coordinated response to ensure patient safety and continuity of care.

Patients in affected areas were promptly assessed and safely relocated to appropriate admission wards and other functional sections of the hospital, including Radiology. Ambulances from other hospitals transferring patients were diverted to Klerksdorp hospital casualty as a temporary measure. Through the collective efforts of hospital staff and emergency services, the Emergency Department was cleared of water and was fully operational again by 03:00 on Tuesday, 27 January 2026.

The MEC for Health in the North West, Honourable Sello Lehari, commended the rapid response by all involved parties.

“We are encouraged by the decisive and professional manner in which this incident was handled. The immediate activation of disaster management protocols ensured that no patients were harmed and that essential services were restored within hours. This reflects our commitment to protecting lives, even under challenging circumstances,” said MEC Lehari.

The CEO of the Klerksdorp–Tshepong Hospital Complex, Mr Thulane Madonsela, together with the Hospital Executive management had a debriefing session with affected staff members and also expressed appreciation to all responders.

“I wish to thank our dedicated Team KT, the local municipal fire department and Kopanong Mine for their prompt assistance and teamwork. Their support was instrumental in stabilising the situation and restoring functionality to critical departments,” said Mr Madonsela.

While operations have since normalised, the Department acknowledges the need for long-term interventions.

“This is a reoccurring disaster and it has been raised with all key stakeholders before with a view to prevent future occurrences. This incident has now highlighted the urgent need to improve storm water drainage infrastructure at Tshepong Hospital.” added MEC Lehari.

The North West Department of Health reassures the public that the hospital remains fully functional and continues to provide uninterrupted healthcare services to the community.
