Grooming and Shaving

what is razor burn?
§ most mild form of shaving irritation
§ slightly itchy and has a noticeable red rash on the face and neck
what is razor bumps?
§ look like pimples and can itch
§ the whisker grows into the surrounding tissue instead of out of the pore
§ resulting in inflammation and possible infection
the 5 key mistakes that cause razor burn:
1. insufficient pre-shave prep
§ the whiskers need to be softened
2. using the wrong kind of shaving medium
§ your shaving medium must be ‘compatible’ with your skin to avoid irritation
3. using a dull razor
§ have you ever tried cutting a tomato with a dull knife blade
§ notice how instead of cutting, you end up tearing the tomato?
§ this is what is happening to your face when your razor is not sharp enough
4. incorrect shaving technique
§ use a shaving brush → creates a richer lather, soften and lift the whiskers
§ shave with the grain
§ let your razor do the work, no pressure is needed
§ clean the blade after every stroke and keep strokes short
5. skipping important steps after shaving or using the wrong products
§ rinse your face with cold water when done
§ apply an after shave or moisturiser → avoid products that contain alcohol
