Living and functioning in society, our daily routines are often structured according to rigid time slots, which is commonly not conducive to allowing for efficient and even sufficient recovery from illness or injury, not to mention coping in such a way where our bodies don't struggle from time to time with the regular pressures placed upon us. For many people this leads to the development and maintenance of so-called 'sub-states of health', which, in turn, are often times chronically medicated for the symptoms they can provoke, the expression of which manifests relative to the vulnerability of the individual. The scope of application of Chinese medicine is very broad, & is fundamentally twofold:
1) As a form of medical treatment
2) As a preventative modality to enhance the potential of the body to make future medical interventions less likely due to an increased resilience of general vitality. This preventative branch of traditional Chinese medicine is termed Yǎng Shēng 養生, which directly translates to "Nourishing Life", for which the application of Nèi Gōng principles (posture & breathing exercises) are key. Chinese medicine offers very safe and effective strategies to treat, recover from and prevent illness, as well as to improve 'sub-states of health' to develop toward actual states of health. In other words, where the body is enabled to function independently of any therapeutic modality. Any and all medicine must work with the body in order to secure and enhance the potential to regain independence from any form of treatment, conventional or 'alternative'.
