Maslow Before Bloom

Before the lessons and the tests,
Before the grades that deem who’s best,
We must remember first to see,
The roots beneath the learning tree.

A child hungry, tired, or cold,
Cannot grasp the stories told.
No formula or history chart,
Can reach a wounded, aching heart.

Safety, love, a place to rest,
Come first before we learn or test.
For minds can’t flourish, dream, or bloom,
In a heart that’s trapped in gloom.

So feed the spirit, calm the fears,
Dry the eyes, and lend your ears.
Build the trust and light the way,
Then knowledge will find room to stay.

When Maslow’s needs are met with care,
Then Bloom can follow anywhere.
But first, we nurture, heal, and tend,
For true growth starts where basics mend.

Life Orientation- this subject applies a holistic approach to the personal ,social, intellectual, spiritual, motor and physical growth and development of learners this encourages the development of a balanced and confident leaner who can contribute proactively to the micro and macro environment within which such an individual functions. Who realises the importance to love yourself, know yourself and develop yourself (promote this subject world wide) Please advocate the proper method of teaching the subject by trained life orientation educators so that they can do justice to the subject so needed in our community

At times you might become frustrated about your progress when in therapy, feeling that there is no change. A good rule of thumb is to look back at the first session/s. It will give,some insight. As I often say to clients "baby steps, baby steps". This is the time to reflect and acknowledge progress , no matter how small and revisit reset goals, if necessary for 2018.

Almost time for back to school. Lunch Box, stationery and homework.
Is there still a need for homework? I'm on both sides:educator and being a high school parent.
As educator Is there enough time time check all the homework? I would like to know if learners are able to work independently.
As a parent I would like to check the progress of my child's academic performance but do I have the time and energy after a busy work day.

The most important person is the learner do they have enough time. Between 8h sleep, afterschool activities ; travelling to school and a school day -The question remain : Is there enough time for quality homework and study work ?
A lot of questions : something to think about.
