A Heartfelt Thank You to Kotie Reyneke 🌼

Every year, our dear resident Kotie Reyneke lovingly hosts a year-end festive lunch for our garden maintenance team — a gesture that has become a cherished tradition at Juana Maria Frail Aged Home.

This year was no different. Last week, Kotie prepared a beautiful spread filled with delicious buns, cold meats, fresh salads, cakes and cooldrinks for the team to enjoy. Her kindness and appreciation for the hardworking team who keep our gardens looking wonderful never goes unnoticed. 🌿

A big thank you to Kotie for always going the extra mile, and to Cebi Kunene for walking past at just the right moment and capturing these special photos to share with everyone. ✨

It’s small acts of gratitude like these that make our community so special.

Join Us for a Morning of Gospel Music & Fellowship 🎶

This Thursday at 10am, we are delighted to welcome Leon and Ritha Goosen back to Juana Maria Frail Aged Home. Their visits are always a blessing, and we warmly invite all seniors in Ladysmith—whether you are a resident or simply wish to join us—to come and enjoy their heartfelt ministry.

Leon and Ritha have spent years travelling across the country on their evangelistic tours, visiting old age homes, singing gospel songs, praying with those who need spiritual support, and reminding people that they are never alone. Their passion for sharing God’s love has taken them from town to town, bringing comfort, joy, and hope wherever they go.

There is no entry fee, but we kindly ask for a donation to help Leon and Ritha cover their travel costs as they continue their mission.
We look forward to a morning filled with music, encouragement, and community.

A Fond Farewell to Charlotte Strydom 🌼

This week, we say goodbye to someone very special. After many years as a resident of Juana Maria Frail Aged Home, Charlotte Strydom has decided to move closer to her children and family.

Charlotte has certainly left our Juana Maria community better than she found it. Always ready to lend a hand, she made life brighter and easier for her fellow residents and for so many people in Ladysmith. Her involvement in countless outreach projects, her willingness to help, and her ability to put the needs of others before her own have been a true blessing to us all.

Guided by her deep love for Christ, Charlotte lived out a spirit of service in everything she did. Her caring heart, her quiet strength, and her joyful dedication have left a mark that will not be forgotten.

Charlotte, it is truly hard to see you leave. You have created an empty space that only your loving heart can fill. We wish you many wonderful, happy, and healthy years ahead with your family.

Thank you for everything you’ve done for Juana Maria and for the community of Ladysmith. You will always be part of our family.

Charlotte Strydom kindly donated a beautiful Bennie Boekwurm to the bookshop 2 years ago.
He has lived on a top shelf since then. Our gentle mascot. Keeping a watchful eye over our precious books.
A number of customers have asked to buy him, but we will never let him go.
This is a part of Charlotte's heart she leaves behind for us. We will never forget her loving gesture.

A Saturday of Teamwork and Community Spirit

This past Saturday, Juana Maria Frail Aged Home once again had the privilege of taking part in the Hlanganani Christmas Market held at Monument Primary School. Alongside our bookshop stall, our ever-popular pannekoek stall was a hive of activity!

As always, we were blessed with enthusiastic volunteers who gave up their Saturday to mix, flip, serve and smile. And the Ladysmith community did not disappoint — the queues for pannekoek said it all! ✨

To every volunteer who worked tirelessly, and to every supporter who stopped by to enjoy a treat, thank you. Your kindness and generosity help us continue the work we do for our residents.

What a wonderful Saturday of teamwork, community, and support — all for a good cause.

We had a fun day at the Hlanganani Christmas Market on Saturday, despite the extremely strong winds that blew all day long and posed a real challenge to our book display !

A big word of appreciation to Sanet McChlery for her help in transporting our books, and for creating such attractive bookshop gift vouchers and business cards for us to sell and hand out.

And sincere thanks to Jeanette Vorster and Doreen Brits, for setting up and managing our stand during the morning.

It was great to chat to our loyal bookshop supporters, and we met new people as well. Hopefully, they have been enticed to come and visit our bookshop in the new year, and join our happy reading family.
