🟢 Injury Prevention Month 🟢
This month we shine a light on how we can all play a part in keeping our families, workplaces and communities safer.

Who is affected?
Injuries can affect anyone — children, teens, adults and the elderly. Whether at home, on the road, at work, at school or during sports, accidents happen quickly and often when we least expect them.

Who can help prevent injuries?
✔️ Parents & caregivers
✔️ Teachers & coaches
✔️ Employers & safety officers
✔️ Healthcare professionals
✔️ Community members
✔️ YOU — injury prevention starts with awareness and simple daily habits

What can we do to reduce the risk?
🔹 Keep living spaces clutter-free and well-lit
🔹 Use correct protective gear during sports or physical activity
🔹 Ensure children are always supervised around water and play areas
🔹 Practise safe lifting and workplace ergonomics
🔹 Follow road safety rules — buckle up, slow down, avoid distractions
🔹 Maintain good physical fitness and balance
🔹 Know basic first aid and emergency numbers

By working together, we can significantly reduce preventable injuries and protect the ones we care about most.

Stay safe. Stay aware. 💚

🌞 SUMMER FOOD SAFETY & STOMACH BUG ALERT
With the festive season in full swing, braais, picnics and beach days are on the rise — and so are stomach bugs. Here’s how to keep your family safe and healthy this summer.

🍗 Food Safety Tips
• Keep raw meat separate from ready-to-eat foods
• Don’t leave cooked food in the sun — refrigerate within 2 hours
• Always wash hands before preparing or serving food
• Make sure meat, especially chicken, is cooked all the way through
• Use clean, cold water for salads and fresh produce

🤢 Signs of a Stomach Bug
• Nausea or vomiting
• Diarrhoea
• Stomach cramps
• Low-grade fever
• Dehydration (dry mouth, dark urine, dizziness)

💧 What To Do If Someone Gets Sick
• Offer small sips of water or rehydration solution often
• Avoid heavy, oily or sweet foods
• Keep the person resting and cool
• Watch for signs of dehydration
• Seek medical attention if symptoms worsen, there’s blood in the stool, or vomiting doesn’t stop — especially in young children or older adults.

🏥 Stay safe, stay hydrated, and enjoy the holidays! 🌼

🌞 Summer is here — and so is swimming season!
As our little ones dive into holiday fun, it’s important to keep their ears safe during everyday activities, especially time spent in the pool. 👂💦

Why ear safety matters:
Children are more prone to ear infections, particularly swimmer’s ear, caused when water gets trapped in the ear canal. Simple daily habits can make a big difference in keeping their ears healthy all summer long.

Top tips for protecting your child’s ears:
✔️ Dry their ears gently after swimming or bathing
✔️ Avoid using earbuds/cotton buds inside the ear canal
✔️ Use well-fitted swim caps or ear plugs if they’re prone to infections
✔️ Look out for signs like ear pain, itching, or discharge
✔️ Seek medical care early if symptoms appear

At Langebaan Day Hospital, we are proud to have experienced ENT Surgeons operating from our facility to support your family’s ear, nose, and throat health when you need it most.

Let’s keep those little ears safe so they can enjoy every splash this holiday! 💛🏊‍♀️

☀️ Stay Safe in the Summer Heat! ☀️

As we head into the sunny season and holiday time in Langebaan, remember — the summer sun can be as dangerous as it is beautiful.

🌡️ Heat exhaustion and dehydration can happen quickly, especially in young children and the elderly.
👧🏽 Children are at higher risk — they lose fluids faster and may not realize they’re overheating.
💧 Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water throughout the day, even if you don’t feel thirsty.
🧴 Protect yourself with sunscreen, light clothing, and shade when outdoors.
🚫 Avoid long periods in direct sunlight, especially during peak hours (10am–3pm).

If you or your child experience dizziness, headache, confusion, or rapid heartbeat, seek medical attention immediately — these could be signs of heat exhaustion or heatstroke.

This summer, let’s enjoy the sunshine safely.
☀️ Stay cool. Stay hydrated. Stay healthy.

Let’s separate fact from fiction. Knowing the truth about breast cancer could save a life — maybe even yours.
💞 Book your mammogram today. Early detection saves lives.

🌸 Breast Cancer Myths vs. Facts:

Myth 1: Only women with a family history of breast cancer are at risk.
Fact: Most women diagnosed have no family history of the disease. Regular screenings are important for everyone.

Myth 2: Men don’t get breast cancer.
Fact: Although rare, men can develop breast cancer. Awareness and early detection matter for them too.

Myth 3: A lump is the only sign of breast cancer.
Fact: Changes in breast shape, skin texture, or ni**le discharge can also be warning signs — not just a lump.

Myth 4: Mammograms cause cancer.
Fact: Mammograms use very low doses of radiation and are safe. They’re one of the most effective tools for early detection.

Myth 5: Breast cancer always forms a lump you can feel.
Fact: Some cancers are detected only through imaging — that’s why regular mammograms are so important, even if you feel fine.

Myth 6: If you live a healthy lifestyle, you won’t get breast cancer.
Fact: While healthy habits lower your risk, no one is immune. Screening and awareness are still key.

Myth 7: Breast cancer only affects older women.
Fact: It’s more common after 40, but it can affect younger women, too. Know your body and report changes early.

Myth 8: A mastectomy is the only treatment.
Fact: Treatment depends on the type and stage of cancer. Options include lumpectomy, radiation, chemotherapy, and hormone therapy.

🎀 Post: “What Really Happens During a Mammogram”

For many women, the word mammogram can feel a little intimidating — but it shouldn’t be. A mammogram is simply a quick, safe X-ray that helps detect breast changes long before they can be felt. 💕

Here’s what you can expect:
🩺 Quick & Simple: The entire process usually takes less than 20 minutes.
💗 Mild Discomfort, Not Pain: You may feel some pressure for a few seconds as the breast is gently compressed to get a clear image.
📸 Powerful Results: These images help doctors pick up even the smallest signs of breast changes — allowing for early detection and treatment when it matters most.

A mammogram isn’t something to fear — it’s a step of self-care and strength.
This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, take a moment to prioritise your health and encourage the women you love to do the same.

✨ Early detection saves lives — yours could be one of them.
