Maitland Therapy and Learning Centre

Maitland Therapy and Learning Centre We a non profit company with the main focus of providing a learning and therapy environment for kids with learning disability.

Individualised learning program is developed for each learner based on the learning barrier the learner may have.
• The program is not restricted to children with special needs. It can be used with a neurotypically developing child, ensuring early childhood development.
• The 5 core learning areas: visual perception, auditory perception and language which in turn support the development of numeracy and literacy.
• The program is presented in the form of a manual and recording work book (for each learning area) which is simultaneously used with the individualized curriculum mediated by a qualified teacher.
• Twice a week each child has a one-on-one session with the educational therapist at the centre
• A kit of learning materials and specific techniques are used in the session.
• The program is designed with the intention for all children to think about the what, who, where and how.
• We only work based on the children’s development and there for will only continue with new material once the child has understood the logic thinking on the learning material.
• Our aim at the centre is that every child on the program will be able to:
• Do problem solving
• Abstract thinking
• Do comprehension
• Overcome learning barriers
• Be Self-confidence/ have self esteem/self motivated

The centre I am starting is to give our daughter (10 years old) and hopefully other children the opportunity to enjoy learning. We have been struggling to get our daughter into a remedial school for the past four year.
As per the educational psychologists recommendation a learning program called Eureka learning system(ELS) will be used to assist children with the skills to cope with learning disabilities like reading, spelling, writing and mathematics. Read more on http://eurekalearningsystems.com/.

The centre will be based from our house in Maitland (Which you are most welcome to see).
We will register the children with ELS in order to receive the learning kit and the indivualized curriculum with it.
A specialized trained teacher in educational needs will do the one-on-one with the children.

The learning program is different from mainstream.
• All books based on mainstream will be taken away
• We start looking at the barriers as per the assessment report using the principals of ELS
• Once the child starts to understand the program we start slowly to add the curriculum.

The programmer consists of 5 core learning areas: visual perception; auditory perception and language which in turn support the development of numeracy and literacy. The ELS programmer is presented in the form of a manual and record / work book (for each learning area) which are used simultaneously. The record / work book allows an accurate recording of a child’s progress through the various stages of each core learning area.
