🍳 “I can’t even chop an onion!” — ever hear that from your child? Or maybe you’ve watched them proudly flip pancakes for the very first time.
No matter where your child is in their cooking journey, I’ve put together a complete skills checklist for ages 5–13, plus my favourite recipes to learn before they turn 18. Download it on the link below for FREE https://mailchi.mp/78929cf2dcc2/scch5eb69n

September is almost over, which means it’s time for my yearly Achalasia awareness post 💙
Achalasia is a rare disease (only 1 in 100,000 people!) that affects the esophagus and makes swallowing food and liquid extremely difficult.
It’s not curable, but it is manageable. Some weeks I feel completely fine, and other times the smallest thing — stress, eating out, even excitement — can cause flare-ups. Night choking, food getting stuck, and spasms are all part of the reality.
I share my story to help create awareness, because chances are you’ve never heard of Achalasia — and many doctors haven’t either. Awareness matters.
I also spent way too long designing this carousel 😅
But it needed an update🤪🤣

Find joy in the small things 🍋
This enamel bowl was such a little treasure I stumbled upon in a tiny supermarket in Yzerfontein earlier this month. With its beautiful blue-teal rim, it’s been whisking eggs in my cooking club, and this week it found its way into some photos too. Just look at how perfectly the blue plays with the sunny yellows. The striped cloth is from H&M, another small touch that somehow makes me smile.
It’s funny how something so simple can brighten a whole month. In between the disappointments and challenges, these small things whisper: slow down, look closely, notice. 💛
Some Saturday rambles…😉

If you are looking for inspiration to fall in love with cooking and your kitchen again you have come to the right place.
I am Ankie Niesing, founder of Wooden Spoon Kitchen, an online food blog for those who can, can’t and won’t cook. Simple, wholefood made easy.
I am a trained Home Economics teacher with a creative approach to cooking and styling food. I have been teaching cooking skills for the past 17 years. Over the years I have also developed a keen interest in nutrition and how food can affect our health.
If you are overwhelmed and under-inspired in the kitchen, I know how you feel. I’ve been there. I have had times I dreaded the kitchen, the endless washing up, fussy children that don’t appreciate your efforts, grabbing ready meals because life is too rushed. Eating and cooking food that is not nourishing your body and soul.
Where before my main business before was teaching people to cook at my home studio, from now on I will be sharing online cooking resources, customise meal planning for families and create e-books for a larger community, but don’t worry I still want to do occasional workshops and would love to still connect with all of you in person.
I hope to inspire you along the way to live a more healthy and beautiful lifestyle. If you want to receive more information regarding my services please get in contact and sign-up for my monthly newsletter full of inspiring foodie news and recipes
I cannot wait to meet you and begin a beautiful cooking journey together because, in my kitchen, anyone can cook!
