This week in class we made One-Pan Beef Orzo! š„
*We learned about different pasta shapes and how orzo cooks perfectly in one pan.
*We discovered how to brown beef properly to lock in flavor.
*We made a simple tomato and herb sauce that keeps everything saucy and delicious.
*We practiced stirring, seasoning, and timing so nothing sticks or overcooks.
*We chopped onions, garlic, carrots, and parsley to prep our veggies like pros.
The lesson will be posted on our Online Hub today, so you can watch and cook along anytime.
Some lessons canāt be taught in a hurry.
Some skills are worth the time it takes to learn.
If your child can cook, they gain independence, confidence, and the joy of sharing real food.
Thatās exactly what weāre building in the Wooden Spoon Kids Cooking Club.
This week we made Steak Salad in class.
* We learned about cuts of meat
* How to make a Chimichurri salad dressing (it is a salad dressing from Argentina by the way:)
* How to sear a steak and why steak should rest after cooking.
* We learned to steam and boil beans and potatoes
* We worked on our chopping skills prepping veg: avo's, tomatoes, green beans, parsley, and sweetcorn.
* The lesson will be posted on our Online Hub today, so watch and make it anytime.
How does an online cooking club even work? š³
Honestly⦠it just does.
Kids are showing up, getting into the kitchen, learning real skills, and having so much fun along the way.
If your child would love to cook with confidence, youāre so welcome to join us. āØ
Wanted to post this yesterday. Hope to see you in our Cooking Club :)
We have 50 founding member spots at the current price. Once we reach 50 sign-ups, prices go up-but founding members keep the same rate. This is your chance to lock in the best price and be part of something special for children and families.
This week our young chefs made fish tacos š®
And along the way, we practised some real-life cooking skills:
*Safe knife skills
*Using herbs and spices for flavour
*Making a marinate
*Building a balanced meal
*How to jazz up mayo
*Difference between oily and white fish
Some of the parents feedback: ''It tasted like a restaurant-style meal and next time they are doubling up the recipe, because everyone wanted seconds"
If your child would love to learn to cook like this, youāre welcome to join us.
The first 50 Founding Members secure lifetime access at the current price.
Membership fees will increase once those places are filled.
An online cooking program to help children learn this crucial life skill-and the website is LIVE! š
Our first live classes start tomorrow, and we canāt wait to welcome your family. š³
If you canāt join the live classes, you can still access the Cooking Club Hub, which gives you all the recipes, videos, and everything we cover in our live sessions.
This isnāt just about recipes -the kitchen is a classroom full of learning, confidence, and fun.
Join us and let your child start building real cooking skills, step by step, at their own pace.
Take a look at our new website and join our community!
Where it all started, the learnings, the moments that shaped me - but the golden thread has always been my love for the kitchen and food.
Family has always been at the heart of everything I do, and itās that love and experience that shaped Wooden Spoon Kids.
In South Africa, there is not a formal food curriculum in primary up to Grade 9 in schools. Compared to the UK where food and nutrition is a compulsory subject in most schools.
Only a small segment of students will take Hospitality or Consumer Science as a subject in Gr 10-12.
Iām changing that - on my own terms -with Wooden Spoon Kids.
Iām sharing this story because I want you to know why I do what I do, and why teaching children to cook isnāt just about recipes -itās about confidence, independence, and joy.
Want to see it in action? Join one of our classes this week.
Comment cooking club and I will send you the details.
I canāt wait to welcome you and your children into the club š

If you are looking for inspiration to fall in love with cooking and your kitchen again you have come to the right place.
I am Ankie Niesing, founder of Wooden Spoon Kitchen, an online food blog for those who can, canāt and wonāt cook. Simple, wholefood made easy.
I am a trained Home Economics teacher with a creative approach to cooking and styling food. I have been teaching cooking skills for the past 17 years. Over the years I have also developed a keen interest in nutrition and how food can affect our health.
If you are overwhelmed and under-inspired in the kitchen, I know how you feel. Iāve been there. I have had times I dreaded the kitchen, the endless washing up, fussy children that donāt appreciate your efforts, grabbing ready meals because life is too rushed. Eating and cooking food that is not nourishing your body and soul.
Where before my main business before was teaching people to cook at my home studio, from now on I will be sharing online cooking resources, customise meal planning for families and create e-books for a larger community, but donāt worry I still want to do occasional workshops and would love to still connect with all of you in person.
I hope to inspire you along the way to live a more healthy and beautiful lifestyle. If you want to receive more information regarding my services please get in contact and sign-up for my monthly newsletter full of inspiring foodie news and recipes
I cannot wait to meet you and begin a beautiful cooking journey together because, in my kitchen, anyone can cook!
