Where it all started, the learnings, the moments that shaped me - but the golden thread has always been my love for the kitchen and food.

Family has always been at the heart of everything I do, and it’s that love and experience that shaped Wooden Spoon Kids.

In South Africa, there is not a formal food curriculum in primary up to Grade 9 in schools. Compared to the UK where food and nutrition is a compulsory subject in most schools.

Only a small segment of students will take Hospitality or Consumer Science as a subject in Gr 10-12.

I’m changing that - on my own terms -with Wooden Spoon Kids.

I’m sharing this story because I want you to know why I do what I do, and why teaching children to cook isn’t just about recipes -it’s about confidence, independence, and joy.

Want to see it in action? Join one of our classes this week.

Comment cooking club and I will send you the details.

I can’t wait to welcome you and your children into the club šŸ’›

A lovely review from one of our students!

Thank you for such a generous and inspiring workshop! Ankie’s teaching style is incredibly beginner-friendly and encouraging. I loved how she broke down every aspect into clear, doable steps. The workshop material is gold! Thoughtfully designed, packed with practical tools, and especially inspiring with its flavor ideas
