World AIDS Day, observed annually on December 1, provides an opportunity for people worldwide to come together in the fight against HIV, demonstrate their support for people living with HIV, and remember those who have died of an HIV-related illness. World AIDS Day was the first global health day, having been established in 1988.

World AIDS Day 2021's theme is "End inequalities. End AIDS." With a particular emphasis on reaching people who have been left behind, they are highlighting the growing disparities in access to critical HIV services.

Let's Stop HIV Together aims to empower communities, partners, and healthcare providers to promote HIV testing, prevention, and treatment, as well as to reduce stigma associated with HIV.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

1 DECEMBER 2021

STATEMENT ON WORLD AIDS DAY 2021

The SANAC Civil Society Forum in Free State, joins the world to commemorate World Aids Day 2021.The national theme for this year’s commemoration is: Working Together to End Inequalities, AIDS, TB and COVID-19. Get Tested. Get Vaccinated. Adhere to Treatment.

World Aids Day is an opportunity for civil society to unite in the fight against HIV/AIDS, to show support for those who have been diagnosed and to remember those who have been lost to the disease. This day is not just about raising awareness of global HIV/AIDS statistics (although very important) but it’s about teaching the society the truth about the virus, how its spread, its symptoms and treatments. World AIDS Day is also a solid reminder that we still need to fight the stigmas attached to an HIV/AIDS diagnosis.

The CSF is further committing itself to support 90–90–90 strategy that 90% of people living with HIV (PLHIV) know their HIV status, 90% of people who know their status be on antiretroviral (ARVs), and 90% of all patients receiving antiretroviral therapy (ART) are virally suppressed.

The CSF would like to make the call to society at large to rally behind the fight against HIV/Aids in their communities and make Free State a better Aids-free province.

For World Aids Day 2021 Commemoration in Free State province, the CSF will join commemoration activities as well as main activity of the province together with Provincial Council on Aids (PCA) in Ficksburg on the 9th December 2021.
