As the year comes to a close, I am filled with gratitude for the numerous blessings in my life. What a remarkable experience it has been!
I successfully authored a children’s book, navigated the challenges of grade 1 with my son, and gained valuable insights from this experience.
Our practice has grown to three locations, and I am deeply appreciative of the talented therapists and practice manager who provide top-notch care.
With a loving husband and creative four-year-old daughter, my life is rich in joy and love. I extend my gratitude for your support and look forward to a bright 2026.

Acknowledgement to all the passionate professionals who shine in this exceptional profession.
Honest post: It’s not always easy and emotionally draining because we hold these little ones very close to our hearts.
But wouldn’t prefer any other profession. We love working towards the bigger picture.

There are many studies that support PLAY being the best way for young children to learn. Studies have found that children can learn more through ‘guided play’ than teacher- led instruction.
According to a study done by Cambridge University-
“A play-focused approach to learning, where children are allowed to explore at their own pace, was found to be just as effective as traditional teacher-led methods in teaching literacy, numeracy and thinking skill. And when it came to some maths skills, guided play was actually more effective than other approaches, at least up to the age of eight.”
And for some neurodivergent children, movement can help those listening skills more efficiently.
Here are some activities to do with children to work on 🌟active listening skills🌟.
These play based activities also help with skills such as:
🌟Planning
🌟Organization
🌟Getting along with others
🌟Regulating emotions
🌟Language
🌟Math
🌟Social skills
🌟Coping with stress

“A career in speech, language and hearing therapy challenges you to use your intellect (the talents of your mind) in combination with your humanity (the gifts in your heart) to do meaningful work that feeds your soul…I am proud to be a member of what I consider to be the best profession on earth.”- Megan Hodge.
This quote is a summary of all my favorite things in life. I am passionate about communication. It’s by far my favorite thing to do! But what happens when your whole world changes or your communication potential is only a smile? As a speech therapist I believe that it’s my job to help every patient develop their fullest potential. That’s why I emphasize the fact that a speech therapist greatest benefit is her personality.
I am a farm girl originally from a small town, Koppies, in the Free state. I’ve studied at Stellenbosch University and received a B-Speech, Language and Hearing Therapy degree. I did my community service year at Dihlabeng hospital in Bethlehem where I had the privilege of working with children with a wide variety of disorders. In 2014 I became a lowvelder and provide my services at Flying Colours and as well as local schools. I received my Hearing Aid Acoustician diploma from University of Pretoria at the end of 2015. I’ve also registered with the PROMPT institute in 2015. I’ve completed the introduction and bridging level in 2016. Due to my love for autistic children I’ve completed the introduction level of Floortime. What an amazing tool to follow the child’s lead and to achieve therapy goals through play.
On 29 October 2016 I got married to local journalist Stefan de Villiers. At the end of 2018 we received our biggest blessing. Our little boy, Viljee, was born on 11 December 2018. We have a beautiful pug, Nina. She is the best doggy friend.
In 2018 Lizélda de Bruin-de Villiers Speech Therapy welcomed Lia Odendaal as part of the team! She is a Speech Therapist with an amazing passion for the scholastic popul. She is a great benefit for the practice and a lovely friend.
2019 Presented with a surprising new Adventure. The practice moved premises from 53 Murray street to 26 Marloth street. The premises provides other therapy services like Occupational therapy as well as Educational psychology. We are super excited for our next season.
The educationalist James Britton stated that Reading and writing floats on a sea of talk. This is why early intervention is necessary. It’s the building blocks of your child’s education.
