I had a Thai massage yesterday, and it reminded me of something simple but critical: your body is the engine behind everything you build. When that engine shuts down, everything else follows. As leaders in wellness, we can’t preach what we don’t practice, so I take my own wellbeing seriously.

While I was reflecting, I found myself thinking about our industry. We’re heading into a future where the lines will blur — medical aestheticians, aesthetic doctors, dermatologists, beauty therapists. Different titles, same mission: healthy skin, safe treatments, elevated standards.

The real challenge is education. Our sector still doesn’t have fully recognised degrees, doctorates or a unified pathway that aligns everyone on one standard. I’ve seen pockets of progress, but there’s still a major gap between certificates, diplomas and what the industry truly needs.

That’s why I’m building a licensing system. Not a certificate — a proper licensing framework that raises the bar, protects the industry, and prepares therapists for advanced, regulated practice. And that’s also why I’ve invested in e-learning, e-books and digital training tools through The Blend Institute. Because innovation, technology and structured education are the only way forward.

This industry deserves better. And I’m committed to being part of the solution.

Sometimes you have to go back to where the journey began to remind yourself why you’re still pushing forward.

My body sent a clear memo today: rest, or I’ll shut you down myself.
So I listened. I made my way to Quoimai Thai on Tamboti Road — the same road where my first spa stood four years ago — and allowed myself to just… breathe. Real Thai hands. Real grounding. Realignment at a soul level.

Being there took me straight back to the beginning. My mother booked me my first full body massage when I was writing matric finals. I didn’t even know what a spa was back then. That moment in Braamfontein opened a portal. Something awakened. I carried that spark into varsity, studying biomedicine with a notebook full of massage theories, techniques, sketches… dreams I didn’t have the language for, but I knew they were mine.

That’s how The Blend Wellness started — from a moment, a feeling, and a mother who saw something in me before I saw it in myself. Today this business has become a whole ecosystem. A unique solution to the industry’s challenges.
