Meniscus Tear? Here’s What You Should Know
If you’ve been told you have a torn meniscus, you’ll often hear about two surgical options:
* Repair – stitching the tear back together
* Trim – removing the damaged piece
A trim usually means a faster recovery — you could be back on your feet within weeks.
A repair takes longer to heal, but it keeps more of your natural cushioning in the knee. That cushioning helps protect you from arthritis later in life.
So which is better?
It depends on:
* Your age
* How active you are
* Where the tear is
* The overall condition of your knee
In general, if the tear can be repaired, saving the meniscus is often better for long-term knee health. But sometimes trimming is the safer or more practical option.
The most important thing?
Have a proper discussion about what’s best for your knee — not just the quickest fix.
If you’re unsure about your options, get expert advice before making a decision.

Sports Injury Prevention: Protecting Your ACL and Other Key Structures
Your knees take the impact every time you run, jump, or change direction — and one of the most important structures keeping them stable is the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL).
An ACL injury can put you out of action for months, but the good news is most are preventable with the right habits:
• Strengthen key muscles — build strong quads, hamstrings, glutes, and core for stability.
• Balance & control — add single-leg drills and stability exercises to train your body’s reflexes.
• Warm up properly — dynamic warm-ups boost blood flow and prep your joints.
Perfect your technique — land softly with knees bent and pointing forward, pivot with hips and knees flexed.
• Rest & recover — tired muscles = sloppy technique, which raises injury risk.
• Use the right gear — footwear and sport-specific support make a big difference.
Research shows that structured warm-up and prevention programmes can cut ACL injury risk in half — and protect other key knee structures too.
Take care of your knees today, and they’ll take care of you tomorrow.

Whether you’re a professional athlete or a weekend runner, protecting your knees is essential for staying active and avoiding long recovery times.

Age Is Just a Number – Especially in Orthopaedics!
Just because you're over 70 doesn't mean you have to live with pain, limited mobility, or fear of falling. At our practice, we believe the decision for surgery shouldn’t be based on age alone — but on how you live, move, and want to feel.
• Many older adults bounce back beautifully after orthopaedic surgery
• The right treatment can restore independence and reduce fall risk
• We look at your whole health picture — not just your birth year
