🎄 Staff Appreciation 🎄

Our incredible staff at Huis Zonnekus were recently treated to a special Christmas lunch, lovingly prepared by Feedem.

Everyone enjoyed a delicious chicken braai accompanied by a variety of fresh salads, making it a truly special occasion. 🍗🥗

Each staff member also received a small gift as a token of our heartfelt appreciation for their dedication, compassion, and unwavering commitment to caring for our elderly residents. Your hard work and selfless service do not go unnoticed, and we are deeply grateful for all that you do. ❤️

We also extended our sincere appreciation to the amazing Feedem catering staff were presented with a small token of thanks and a gift in recognition of their hard work, commitment, and excellent service. Your efforts are truly valued and appreciated. 👏✨

A special congratulations goes to Wilma Ramazani, who was proudly awarded a 10-year long service award in recognition of her loyalty, dedication, and years of faithful service to our home. 🌟

We value each and every staff member and wish everyone a blessed Christmas and a prosperous New Year. Thank you for being the heart of our home. 🎄✨

🍑✨ A Beautiful Blessing Turned Into Something Special ✨🍑

We are excited to share a wonderful blessing that recently came our way! Attie Nieuwoudt from the SSonnekus Gemeente(NG Kerk) was generously gifted crates of fresh apricots from a farmer in Ashton and kindly chose to extend this blessing to Huis Zonnekus by donating a generous supply to our Home.

With a lovely idea from our Manager and the help of our amazing catering partner, FEEDEM, these apricots will be transformed into delicious homemade apricot jam. The jam will be bottled and sold to friends, family, and the wider community, with all proceeds going directly toward our fundraising efforts and the ongoing care of our residents.

👉 We urgently need your help!
To keep costs low and make the most of this opportunity, we are appealing for empty glass jars (250 ml or 375 ml). If you’re able to assist, please drop them off at Huis Zonnekus as soon as possible, as we have limited time to put this beautiful fruit to good use.

Please also help us by sharing this post with your family, friends, church groups, and business networks. Every single jar makes a difference and helps turn this generous gift into meaningful support for our Home.

🎄✨ A Truly Special Christmas Celebration for Our Residents ✨🎄

Each year, our residents are treated to a very special Christmas lunch, lovingly prepared by our incredible catering partner, Feedem— and this year, they truly outdid themselves once again!

From the stunning décor and beautifully set tables to the thoughtful wall art, every detail was carefully planned and executed to perfection. The mouthwatering à la carte meal, followed by an absolutely amazing dessert, delivered nothing less than 5-star treatment for our residents. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

We are so incredibly blessed to have FEEDEM as part of our team. Not only did they spoil our residents with an unforgettable dining experience, but they also filled the room with joy by entertaining everyone with Christmas carols — such a talented and generous group! 🎶❤️

A heartfelt thank you to the management of Huis Zonnekus for making this wonderful celebration possible, and a special word of appreciation to Ernest Cilliers for always being so willing to share his gift at the piano. Your music adds something truly magical and meaningful to our celebrations. 🎹✨

🌟 Grateful Hearts, Stronger Communities 🌟

A heartfelt thank you to Caroline Ma and the BLIA Cape Town Team for taking the time to visit our Home and learn more about the needs of our elderly residents. Being able to share our space, our stories, and the work we do every day was truly special, and Caroline’s warm, open-hearted approach meant more to us than words can express.

We were deeply moved when BLIA returned on 3 December with a generous donation of essential toiletries and much-needed diapers. As a non-profit organisation, we rely heavily on community support, and contributions like these play a vital role in helping us care for our residents with dignity, comfort, and respect.

What makes this support even more meaningful is the reminder it brings — that kindness knows no boundaries. Regardless of race, religion, or culture, when we stand together and support one another, we build stronger, more compassionate communities. Acts of generosity like this show our residents that they are valued, remembered, and loved.

🌟 A Heartfelt Thank You to TLC Outreach Projects! 🌟

For the past few years, TLC Outreach Projects has been one of our most dedicated volunteer partners, giving their time, energy, and resources wholeheartedly. Their Memory Care Program continues to make a profound impact—not only for our Residents living with dementia and Alzheimer’s, but for all our Residents here at Huis Zonnekus.

Every Tuesday, this incredible team fills our Home with joy, laughter, and meaningful engagement. From exercise and music therapy to puzzles, games, arts and crafts, and so much more, they remind us how powerful memory stimulation and connection truly are. 💛

A special and sincere thank you to Colleen Petersen, whose passion and leadership keep this outreach alive. We would truly be lost without your unwavering support. Your commitment is making a real difference in the lives of our Residents and in many others beyond our doors.

🌼 A Heartfelt Thank You to Our Wonderful Volunteers 🌼

Every Wednesday, our dedicated volunteers from MCP visit our Dementia Care Ward, lovingly known as Anne’s Haven, to spend precious time with our residents.
Eike and Michelle pour their hearts into creating meaningful activities each week — and we are deeply grateful. Michelle’s commitment is especially touching, as her husband is also a resident at Anne’s Haven. 💛

This week, our residents enjoyed a variety of memory-stimulating and sensory activities, including puzzles, playdough, dolls, and — the biggest hit of all — bubbles! ✨ The joy and engagement these simple moments bring are truly priceless.

These activities are far more than just entertainment. They play an essential role in supporting individuals living with dementia and Alzheimer’s, helping to spark memories, encourage connection, and maintain cognitive and emotional wellbeing.

We know our followers love seeing updates from Anne’s Haven. While we don’t share photos from this ward as often as we do from other events, please know this in no way reflects a lack of activity, care, or love.
Our residents at Anne’s Haven receive all the dignity, compassion, and attention they deserve.
However, due to the sensitivity of dementia and memory care — and out of respect for the wishes of families — we choose to protect their privacy more carefully.

On behalf of our residents, staff, and management, we extend our sincere gratitude to the Principal, teachers, and learners for inviting our residents to your wonderful Christmas Tea Party! From the beautiful choir performances of festive songs and beloved carols, to the delicious selection of sweets, savouries, tea, and juice, every detail made the morning truly special. 💛

The thoughtful Christmas gifts — including essential toiletries and beautifully decorated coffee cups — brought smiles to many faces, reminding our residents that they are valued and remembered during this festive season.

We also wish the Grade 7 learners all the very best as they conclude their year at primary school and soon begin their exciting journey in high school! ✨

🌟 Heartfelt Thank You to Shelanti Private School! 🌟

On 25 November, we had the absolute joy of welcoming the wonderful Grade 5 and 6 learners and their dedicated teachers from Shelanti Private School to our Home. 💛

They arrived with delicious treats for tea, and what followed was a morning filled with laughter, conversation, games, and kindness. Our residents were truly uplifted by the time these amazing young people spent chatting and connecting with them.

A special highlight was the pampering session for our elderly ladies — gentle hand massages and beautifully polished nails. 💅✨ These small acts of love meant the world to them.

We are so proud of these learners for their respect, compassion, and genuine interest in our residents. Their teachers can be proud of the values they are instilling through meaningful outreach like this. 🌼

As we enter the festive season, we wish the entire Shelanti school community a blessed Christmas and a joyful New Year. Thank you for brightening our Home and our hearts. ❤️
