*World prematurity day 2025*

The World Health Organisation advocates for healthy beginnings that can bring about hopeful futures. Every child deserves a fair chance at life, starting from the very first moments they come into this world.
Children’s brains develop rapidly and can be influenced by their surroundings. The first 1000 days of a child’s life can set the course for the rest of their journey into childhood. For a baby born prematurely, these first 1000 days is even more important as extra care is required to meet their specific needs.

The multi-disciplinary team, including the Occupational Therapist, play a vital role in ensuring that the medical, nutritional, developmental and emotional needs of a premature baby are met. Early intervention - starting in the hospital/NICU is of utmost importance to give each baby a fair start in life.

A special shout-out to all our warrior babies who show us the meaning of true resilience and strength 💜💜

Many people are shocked to learn that Occupational Therapists work with newborns, as well as with older infants!

It's been on my mind for quite a long time to make a post about the little ones. The problem is...once I get started, I might not stop soon😉

By die praktyk het ons 'n besondere groot passie vir intervensie van die baba - van dag 1 af - en veral die lyfies wat in NICU opeindig. 👣

Navorsing bewys oor-en-oor dat die grootste verskil in die kind se ontwikkeling gemaak kan word indien hulle so vroeg as moontlik in terapie gesien kan word. 🪅

Time & again we've picked up neurological red flags during infant screenings where we can provide specialized intervention in order to minimize possible challenges in development and to support the family on the road ahead.🚨

Unfortunately, we have also experienced the flipside of the coin where children missed out on early intervention and then it becomes really hard to shift the focus from "improving" to "maintaining".

Indien jy as ouer dus oóit wonder wanneer die beste tyd is om raad te kry by 'n Arbeidsterapeut - eerder vroeër as later. Indien jy met jou hande in die hare in die NICU sit, onthou dat jy nie die pad op jou eie hoéf te stap nie en dat daar 'n span professionele mense daar buite is wat dit stap-vir-stap saam jou kan doen. 🤱

Die jaar het so vinnig verby gegaan dat dit amper onwerklik is om te d**k dis alweer middel Oktober! Dit beteken die einde van die jaar is naby en almal se energie vlakke is laag, maar die begin van die kwartaal beteken ook dat elkeen van ons nuwe kanse kry. 🌻
