Following WAAW2024, the fight against antimicrobial resistance (AMR) continues.
By 2050, 10 million people could die each year from drug-resistant infections, making it one of the leading causes of death globally. This alarming trend could also lead to:
- $3.4 trillion in annual economic losses
- 24 million more people pushed into extreme poverty
- A disproportionate impact on low-income countries, particularly in Asia and Africa
- In 2019 alone, 1.27 million deaths were directly attributed to drug-resistant infections—more than those caused by HIV/AIDS (860,000) and malaria (640,000) combined
AMR doesn’t just threaten health; it amplifies social and economic inequalities, putting vulnerable populations at even greater risk.
Non-medicated wound dressings play a vital role in reducing infection risks, limiting the need for antibiotics, and preventing the emergence of drug resistance. These dressings:
- Protect wounds without contributing to resistance
- Promotes natural healing by maintaining a clean environment.
- Provide a sustainable, cost-effective alternative in resource-limited settings.
