How to choose a pump:
There are a lot to consider before just buying a pump. What works for one mom won't work for another necessarily. Consult with a qualified lactation consultant in your area as they know what to assess for. You have to take into consideration your own anatomy such as ni**le size. A pump with an incorrect fl**ge size will inhibit your amount of milk that you will retrieve. You also have to assess your future need eg: will you be with your baby mostly and only need to pump occasionally, then a handpump or mini electric pump will suffice. Do you need to go back to work and pump to maintain milk supply because you still want to supply EBM(expresssed breast milk) to the caretaker, then you need a proper double elctric pump. Further; what will your pumping circumstances be at work? Will you have privacy to pump...if not you might want to consider discreet pumping such as the Freemie handsfree pump. Will you have access to electricity...if not you will have to look for a rechargeable pump. If you put in the proper research you will never look back. Remember your ni**le size can differ pregnancy to pregnancy and even post pregnancy. Your ni**le sizes might differ per breast and you may need to use two different size fl**ges for every breast individually. Therefore assessment is crucial. It will save you a lot of money and frustration in the long run. Most QUALIFIED Lactation consultants will have a range of pumps you can fit or try out.
