➋⓿➋➎ — Looking back on this year, I’m reminded that not every season teaches us loudly. Some lessons arrive in the pauses, the detours, the days where we were simply getting through.

This year taught me about strength that looks like patience, trust that grows when control is taken away, and the quiet gift of people who show up when it matters most.

As we step into a new year, may we pause long enough to understand the one we’re leaving behind — and move forward with clarity instead of pressure.

Here’s to 2026 🤍

𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗔𝗜𝗗𝗦 𝗗𝗮𝘆 – 𝗨𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗛𝗜𝗩 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗢𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀

HIV remains a big health challenge in South Africa, especially for young women. But there is encouraging news — and today is the perfect day to talk about it.

𝗔 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗛𝗜𝗩-𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗶𝘀𝗲 💉

Recent studies in South Africa and Uganda found that lenacapavir, a twice-a-year injection, is highly effective at preventing HIV.
This is a big step forward, especially for people who struggle to take a daily pill (PrEP).

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁?

✔️ 𝗢𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝟲 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵𝘀
✔️ 𝗩𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗴𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁 𝗛𝗜𝗩
✔️ 𝗘𝗮𝘀𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗸𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗲 (𝗻𝗼 𝗽𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗯𝗼𝘁𝘁𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗿 𝗱𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀)
✔️ 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘁𝘆𝗹𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀 𝗱𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘆 𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁

Why this matters for South Africa

Young women and adolescent girls remain at the highest risk of HIV. Many women in SA are exposed early in life, and current prevention methods don’t always fit real-life challenges. A long-acting injection could change that.

Is it available in South Africa yet?

Yes — SAHPRA approved lenacapavir for HIV prevention in October 2025.
The Department of Health plans a phased rollout from 2026, starting in selected primary healthcare facilities. Over time, access is expected to expand as more affordable generic versions become available.

To reach the global goal of reducing HIV as a public health threat by 2030, we need prevention tools that truly work for people’s day-to-day lives. Having more options — pills, injections, condoms, regular testing — means more people can choose what suits them best. 🎗️

𝗔 𝗕𝗶𝗴 𝗪𝗶𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗪𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻’𝘀 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵!

For years, low-dose vaginal estrogen carried a boxed warning (the strongest kind of caution label) suggesting possible risks like cancer, heart attack, or stroke.

Following extensive research and review, major medical societies have confirmed there’s no evidence that low-dose vaginal estrogen increases these risks.

That’s why leading medical bodies — including the American College of Obstetricians & Gynecologists and the American Urological Association — urged the FDA to remove this warning.
✅ It’s now officially been removed.

This is a huge milestone for women’s health.
