A neuropsychological assessment considers all aspects of the brain’s functioning which can become impaired due to illness, injury or insult (physical assault). Comprehensive neuropsychological assessments are provided.
Our Role: What we can help you with
• Investigating how neurological conditions or injuries to the brain impact cognition, mood, behaviour and personality and determine the implications for every-day life/work/relationships
• Assessment for progressive deterioration of cognitive function
• Contribute to diagnosis, investigating fall-out after insult and recommendations
• Pre- and post- neurosurgery/neurological intervention assessments to track progress/change
• Work-capacity and medico-legal assessments
• Psychotherapy for individuals and families dealing with neurological conditions
Scope of Practice: Who can benefit
Adults:
• Strokes
• Epilepsy
• Neuro-degenerative disorders
• Traumatic brain injuries
• Metabolic disorders affecting the central nervous system, autoimmune disruption and toxicity.
• Functional neurological disorders
• Investigation and diagnosis into specific aphasia’s, apraxia’s, agnosia’s, amnesia’s and dysexecutive syndromes.
Pediatrics:
• Same scope as adults, with a greater focus on scholastic assessments (IQ) and recommendations
• Attentional and behavioural problems, autism spectrum disorders, conduct disorders, and learning and intellectual disabilities.
• These patients may either have suspected or confirmed underlying pathology or significant psychiatric overlay. These pathologies include epilepsy, various developmental disorders, paediatric HIV/FAS, traumatic brain injuries, and genetic disorders. Typically, schooling recommendations are made following paediatric neuropsychological assessment.
