We all know that Mondays can be stressful and overwhelming!! Making use of mindful visualisation is an effective tool for improving your outlook and reducing stress in the moment.

1. Find a quiet space, sit comfortably and imagine a red balloon.
2. Slowly inhale, allowing each breath to relax and rejuvenate you.
3. Slowly exhale, filling the balloon with thoughts of stress and tension, then release it into the sky.
4. Repeat for several minutes, until you feel calm, centered and positive.

Sometimes life can get overwhelming for the best of us. I was reminded of that again today. Rumours of protest in our lovely town and managing schedules as schools are closed (again) left me with some BIG emotions. Over time, however, I have learned that there are things I can do to soothe myself and calm my nervous system. For me it is all things touch - soft and comfy clothes and anything warm like a bath, cup of coffee or hot water bottle. Once you know what you need you can always fall back on your strategy to self-soothe and conquer those BIG emotions. Here are some suggestions. Remember that it may take some trial and error to find your perfect strategy.

We are at times our own worst enemies. The thoughts we have about ourselves, other people, situations and events often cause us more anxiety than needed. Our thoughts determine how we feel, and it is from that feeling/ emotion that we act. If we can change our thoughts for the better, the rest will follow.

Mondays are notorious for being long and tiring. Beat the Monday Midday Slump by doing deep breathing exercises to boost your energy and get things done!!
Here is an easy one-minute exercise you can do anywhere, anytime:

Inhale to the count of two
Exhale to the count of two

Inhale to the count of two
Exhale to the count of three

Inhale to the count of two
Exhale to the count of four

Inhale to the count of two
Exhale to the count of five

Repeat several times until you feel rejuvenated.
