What does it mean to have a doula attend your birth?
-It means unconditional support. Regardless of whether you want an epidural, a c-section, or to give birth in a birth tub. Doulas believe that YOU know what's best for your body and your baby.
-It means strength. Doulas are some of the strongest people I know. They provide counter-pressure hours. They hold you up when you feel like you can't take one more step. They stand with you, they sway with you, they squat with you.
-It means you'll have a cheerleader during every stage and turn your labor takes. "You can do this." "You are doing this." "Your body and your baby are working together." "We are here with you. We aren't leaving you. You are not alone."
Doulas get into the trenches. They aren't afraid of tears or vomit or amniotic fluid or placentas. They're willing and eager to leave at 2am. They'll stay beside you even when everyone else is too exhausted to stay awake. They'll walk with you, they'll cry with you, and they'll rejoice you with you when your baby is finally in your arms.
