What I am learning in the later stages of my recovery program
written by G.S. (current resident)

"Eleven months ago, I reached breaking point. I had spent decades in relentless pursuit of ‘something else’ to fix me. I lost myself chasing the idea that happiness was to be found in having what I wanted, but over the last eleven months at Pelgrims Place I have come to understand that true happiness is in fact wanting what I have."

Morning running has changed my life!
written by current resident F.C.
“A quick background on my story; I was never a ‘runner’ before and I did not enjoy it, even though I participated in sports at school. I suffered from an autoimmune disease, leaving me paralysed and on a ventilator for half a year. I had to learn to breath and walk without support again. Before now I neglected my health with years of drug & alcohol abuse.

Then after coming to Pelgrims Place and starting the day with a quick run has a magical effect. I feel like I have fought most of my battles of the day, lifting my mind and connecting with my maker in a way no one can describe. The physiological effects are merely a bonus.

Morning running has truly given a major boost in recovery and paved the way for my journey forward.”

Benefits of a positive outlook
written by current resident T.D.
“I want to start by saying the benefits of a positive outlook never made sense to me. I saw it as lying to myself, because I wasn’t a good person. I made mistakes often. I am in rehab when I want to be free. My outlook on life determined my reality. The attitude I have makes me who I am. That is when I had a revelation. Jesus was the light that revealed God’s grace and mercy, just like the sun reveals the nature of the land it shines upon. I had to understand that being in this place was the best thing that could have happened to me. I could have been dead or in jail. I now walk in truth and my mind set on living a positive, purpose-driven life.”

Self-Esteem through hard work
written by current resident L.J.
“In my life, a clear connection is apparent when I look deeper into things. I have always been a hard worker and never afraid to break a sweat. I also thought of myself as enough just as I am.
Drugs entered the picture and robbed me of endurance, and made me a slave to instant gratification. Working hard was not a part of my skillset anymore.
And that’s what it is, a skill I had to learn and master again. If I look back at a task I did, I feel a sense of accomplishment. I want someone to walk past and say, “I can see L.J. worked here.”

Our Story

Pelgrims Place is a male recovery centre based in Paternoster, WC. We are a centre built and run by Healing Wings, who have over 20 years experience in rehabilitating and helping people who have struggled with substance abuse and addiction. Because our centre strips away the pressures of the outside world, goes back to the fundamentals and basics of rehabilitation and uses our wealth of knowledge in therapy and recovery programs, we are able to offer our program at an incredibly affordable rate. Our program is a minimum of six months, as it is our belief that the most effective form of rehabilitation is long term. We believe everybody has the right to get the help they need and the ability to overcome addiction.
