Could your back pain be caused by a temporary difference in leg length?

Maybe you've been told you have a "leg length discrepancy" — and along with the label came a dose of fear, frustration, and a long list of expensive inserts, orthotics, or custom shoes.

But here’s the truth most people don’t get told:

👉 There are two types of leg length discrepancy — anatomical (structural) and physiological (functional).
And that difference matters a lot when it comes to treatment.

We can assess which type you have — and more importantly, whether it’s contributing to that nagging one-sided lower back pain you get… especially when:

🚗 Getting in or out of the car
🌙 Turning over in bed at night
🏃‍♂️ Or even just standing or walking for a while

This pain is often coming from your SIJ (sacroiliac joint) — a small joint where your spine and pelvis meet. A slight pelvic tilt or imbalance can cause irritation here, and it’s commonly mistaken for general low back pain.

The good news? If your leg length difference is physiological, we can usually improve it along with accompanying back pain — often significantly — with targeted physio treatment.

➡️ Stay tuned to see the exercises we used to correct this patient's physiological leg length discrepancy and decrease her back pain within 15 minutes!

The Pilates principle of centering emphasizes the core as the focal point of physical control and stability. This principle involves engaging the muscles around the abdomen, lower back, hips, and pelvis to create a strong and stable center.

By cultivating awareness and control in this central region, you can enhance overall body strength, improve posture, and promote efficient movement.

The emphasis on centering in Pilates not only contributes to physical strength but also fosters a mind-body connection, encouraging individuals to move with precision and mindfulness.

Practice centering during our next class!

We are SO EXCITED to share that Saskia is having a baby boy!

She's been feeling strong and well so far, and we hope that she continues to have a healthy pregnancy.

It's understandable to wonder about receiving care during this time, but there's no need to worry because Michèle will take over from mid-February 2024 and ensure that you receive the same excellent care that Saskia provides.

We wish the best for Saskia and her family during this exciting time!

The control principle defines THE WAY in which the exercises are performed.

By performing each movement with precision and control, rather than relying on momentum or force, it allows you to target specific muscles and maintain proper alignment, making the exercise more efficient and effective.

The control principle emphasizes the QUALITY of the movement rather than the quantity, which means that even small, precise movements can lead to significant changes in your body.

By practicing the control principle in Pilates, you enhance your mind-body connection, improve your posture, develop your core strength, and increase overall body awareness and control.

The concentration principle in Pilates refers to the focus and mindfulness required during each movement. It is about being fully present in the body and being aware of every small detail and sensation throughout the exercise. By concentrating on each movement, the mind and body work together to achieve optimal results and enhance body awareness.

Something we practice during Pilates Workouts and Physio Rehab.

The ultimate mind-body connection starts with AWARENESS. Being super conscious of every movement in your body brings about a foundation for change. Research has even shown that without awareness during joint movement and muscle activation, little can be achieved! You need to know what you're working on, where the movement initiates from and how to control your joints through the range of movement.

MINDFUL MOVEMENT!
