I’m more costly than diamonds, more costly than gold, the sorrow I bring is a sight to behold.
And if you need me, remember I’m easily found, I live all around you, in schools and in town.
I live with the rich, I live with the poor, I live down the street, and maybe next door.
My power is strong; try me you’ll see, but if you do, you may NEVER break free.

Recovery Breakfast Social – Saturday, 13 September

We kicked off the morning outdoors—chopping, frying, brewing tea, and setting up. The smell of coffee hung in the air, laughter bounced between conversations, and everyone had a hand in making it happen. It was easy, light, and full of connection.

After breakfast, we took to the trail through the World’s View forests. No rush, no pressure—just a steady walk, fresh air, and good company. Some walked and talked, others took in the quiet. It was a chance to move, breathe, and be together outside the usual rhythm.

This morning reminded us: recovery can be joyful. It can be shared. It can be simple—just people showing up, making food, and walking side by side. 💚

For every person caught in addiction, up to 72 other people are affected or impacted by that 1 persons addiction.

Addictions impacts families and loved ones:

❖ Addiction places immense stress on supporters/loved ones, causing them to experience various degrees of unmanageability in their own lives.
❖ Supporters adopt maladaptive coping mechanisms of their own and end up
becoming an integral part of the disordered system.
❖ Supporters require their own program of recovery to heal from trauma and to
free themselves from self-defeating behaviors such as co-dependency, reactivity,
self-neglect and enabling.

Attending a recovery group is a great way to learn how to break the cycle and step out of chaos into clarity and freedom.

On the 7th of June, we hosted an Addiction Recovery Workshop at One Life, Worlds View.
The workshop was attended by professionals, those seeking recovery, family members and supporters.

It was a fruitful time of equipping, networking and creating more awareness about the extent of the addiction situation in our community as well as how we help in the outpatient space.

Most significant was the impact the material had on supporters and the awareness that supporters need recovery too.
Supporters/loved ones require their own program of recovery to heal from trauma and pain and to free themselves from self-defeating, dysfunctional patterns of behaviour.
