We're very excited to announce the opening of a Frontier Fire Assist satellite unit in Port Alfred. FFA is a volunteer fire crew based in Grahamstown, and we’re excited to now grow that presence here in our community.

We currently have 8 trainee volunteers who have joined the first intake and have begun their wildfire training journey, with practical training taking place on our local Fire Department’s training grounds.

A huge thank you to the Disaster Management students from Stenden South Africa, who recently built fire beaters alongside the Working on Fire teams as part of their practical training. These beaters have been generously donated to LifeFirst and will go a long way in helping equip and train our new FFA volunteer crew.

This is what community collaboration looks like! Volunteers, education, and emergency services working together to strengthen wildfire preparedness in Port Alfred and surrounds!

What πŸ‘A πŸ‘ Jol

Friday the 13th brought some serious heat (not just from the fire)! We had an epic Fire Training Session with a handful of students. The best part? Practical Fire Training!

Senior Firefighter De Wee kept everyone on their toes and the students even had the opportunity to "damp down" their own fire with the equipment from their fire truck!

Massive thanks to the Working on Fire Team for keeping us safe during practical!

First Aid and Fire training with these legends from Opposite the Arch and Major Fraser's in Grahamstown earlier this week!

Huge thanks to Frontier Fire Assist for providing safety standby during our live fire training and giving our students the chance to ask questions and get a feel for proper firefighting equipment!

What a week at LifeFirst πŸ”₯

On Tuesday, students brought the heat with Fire Awareness and an incredible practical session at the Fire Department. Wednesday saw instructors Shannen and Wouna at Kariega Slipway with a brand new group of Questers. The water was freezing, but somehow everyone still left smiling (and a whole lot more confident). By Friday, 10 students joined our FREE Community First Aid Workshop, getting proper hands-on training and learning the kind of skills that actually matter when things go wrong.

And in between all that beautiful chaos? Over 60 fire extinguishers came through our doors for annual servicing, because prevention is just as important as response.

We truly love working with people who believe in Safety First. This community shows up, and we’re here for it. πŸ’›πŸ”₯

Yesterday’s Fire Training came with a bonus!

Huge thank you to the Chief Sauls, Ndlambe Fire Department and the powerhouse team from Working on Fire for bringing the heat (literally) and making the practical session next-level πŸ”₯

When operational firefighters step in to demonstrate, supervise, and share real-world experience, the learning hits differently.

We don’t just teach fire theory.
We build confidence.

Another Wednesday, another crew from Quest Africa - Eastern Cape
They spend a lot of time in and around the water during their adventures, which makes water safety absolutely essential, not only for themselves, but for their fellow Questers too.

Today, we head back to the Kariega Slipway to meet up with Group 3… and we’re ready πŸ”₯🌊

Last week’s group got stuck into:
⚠️ Reading the river and understanding real risk
πŸ›Ÿ Non-contact rescue principles (reach, throw, and so on)
🧠 Decision-making under pressure
🩺 Casualty handling and basic post-rescue care

Join us and discover practical safety measures in an environment where lithium battery use is increasing; from inverters and backup power systems to everyday devices we rely on. As lithium technology becomes part of daily life, understanding the associated fire risks and prevention strategies is essential.

The session will be led by industry expert Keith Donaldson from Bay Fire Safety Solutions, bringing hands-on experience and professional insight from the fire safety sector.
