Thank you to Life Healthcare, Joy of Hearing, MED-EL South Africa and my colleagues for assisting the PE Cochlear Implant Group to provide an implant for this little girl.
The surgery went very well yesterday and she went home with a big smile on her face. Although she has cleared the first hurdle, there is still a long road ahead as she learns to hear and speak. We wish her success in this journey.

Dear Friends

We are so excited at Joy of Hearing about the wonderful privilege we have to financially support this 3 year old girl, Laika Shoko, to enable her to receive a cochlear implant on Monday 14 December. Although she currently wears hearing aids, an implant is Laika’s only chance to develop to her full potential in a demanding world of sound.

Many of you have made financial contributions in the past or have attended a Joy of Hearing function – all of which enables us to help someone like this. An initiative like this is, however, about more than just money. It is about awareness and support to those who need it most.

We would like to share Laika’s journey with you over the next few months and will broadcast it on our website and other social media platforms. Please support us and share it with your friends and family.
