PE Vein

PE Vein Our vision is to develop excellence in the management of venous disorders, specifically varicose vei

By assembling a multidisciplinary team of clinicians interested in the treatment of varicose veins, we aim to achieve both academic and clinical excellence. We feel that the management of venous disease is a specialized field that has long been neglected in SA. The assessment and understanding of venous disease is complex, thus needing a dedicated multidisciplinary team approach. We offer therapies apart from open surgery ( laser, radiofrequency ablation, foam sclerotherapy, ambulatory phlebectomy) that has been the gold standard treatment in the rest of the world in the last 10 years, but has not been available in South Africa. These therapies offer pain-free, non-surgical and very effective treatment of venous disease. These therapies are offered as in-room procedures, not requiring hospitalization. Our aim is thus to revolutionize the assessment and treatment of varicose veins and venous ulcers in Port Elizabeth. VNUS procedure: under sedation and local anaesthetic, a catheter is inserted into the varicose vein at the level of the knee and advanced to the groin. The catheter is carefully positioned under ultrasound guidance and the vein is destroyed using high frequency waves. Foam sclerotherapy: a special foam chemical is injected into veins causing the vein walls to stick together. This leads to destruction of the vein over the next few weeks. Ambulatory phlebectomy: specialized hooks and needles are inserted under local anesthesia and ultrasound guidance to remove veins. Venous surgery and stripping: this traditional therapy will be offered to selected patients who are a high sedation risk, or whose anatomy is not suitable for the above procedures. This is done under general anesthetic and requires hospitalization. Our Specialist are:

Varicose veins are more common than you think, and some causes are easy to ignore. Here are 5 surprising factors:
1️⃣ Wearing tight clothing: restricts blood flow in the legs
2️⃣ Crossing your legs often can increase pressure in veins.
3️⃣ High-heeled shoes: limit calf muscle movement that helps blood circulation
4️⃣ Dehydration: thickens blood and affects circulation
5️⃣ Ignoring mild leg swelling or fatigue: early symptoms often go unnoticed.

Spotting these early habits can help you take steps to protect your vein health.

Take action before discomfort starts.

The VNUS procedure is a modern treatment that uses radiofrequency energy to close faulty veins.

It is minimally invasive, performed in-room and does not require general anaesthetic. Most patients return to normal activities quickly.

By closing the problematic vein, healthy veins continue normal blood circulation.

Ask us if the VNUS procedure is right for you.

Myth: Varicose veins are only a cosmetic problem.

Fact: Varicose veins can cause pain, swelling, skin changes, and, in severe cases, even ulcers.

When vein valves do not work properly, blood pressure builds up in the legs. A proper ultrasound assessment helps determine the correct treatment plan.

Do not ignore the signs.

Get clarity with a professional consultation.

Did you grow up believing that barefoot walking is harmful for your veins? ❌

Here's the truth: every stride engages your second heart, the calf muscles, which aids blood flow back to the heart. Gentle exercise helps to reduce pooling, swelling, and vein strain, which keeps your legs healthy. Even short barefoot walks can make a difference in circulation over time 🩸
