A Memorable Milestone at Edge Day Hospital
Edge Day Hospital proudly celebrates a significant first for both our facility and the city of Gqeberha: the successful completion of an Oxford Procedure (partial knee replacement) performed in a day-hospital setting. The surgery was carried out by the highly experienced and accomplished Orthopaedic Surgeon Dr. Vikesh P Gajjar and his dedicated team.
The patient—a healthy, active 51-year-old woman with minimal comorbidities—was an ideal candidate for this procedure with a short term hospital stay. This achievement marks not only an important milestone for Edge Day Hospital but also a promising beginning, as we anticipate many more such surgeries in the future.
Across South Africa and around the world, partial and total knee replacements are increasingly being performed in day hospitals. Advancements in surgical techniques, alongside the ongoing pursuit of cost-effective, high-quality care, continue to drive this growing trend.
