Melanie Schoeman Naude, Audiologist, represented the South African Cochlear Implant Group alongside Dr. Louis Hofmeyr, an ENT specialist, at a pediatricians conference in Port Elizabeth. Dr. Hofmeyr underscored the significance of newborn hearing screenings and timely referrals for hearing assessments to the audience. Early detection of substantial hearing loss will facilitate early implantation and yield better outcomes for speech, language, and cognitive development.
