Breast Health: Early Detection Saves Lives

Breast cancer can develop silently, which is why early detection is so important. Mammography is a medically recognised tool that can detect changes in breast tissue before symptoms appear, allowing timely assessment by a healthcare practitioner.

Women aged 40 and above are encouraged to consider an annual mammogram, which provides the best opportunity to identify changes at an early, more manageable stage. Each scan is securely stored in our system, enabling specialist radiologists to compare images year-on-year for accurate monitoring.

At Bayradiology, we offer a range of specialised breast imaging services to support comprehensive breast health assessment. These include Breast MRI, Digital Breast Tomosynthesis (3D mammography), and breast localisation procedures performed under ultrasound guidance.

We use advanced imaging technology in a controlled clinical environment. Scans are performed by trained mammographers, who guide you through the process and answer any questions you may have.

Book your mammogram today and take an important step in monitoring your breast health.

Breast Health Awareness

Today, Bayradiology engaged with the public at our Mercantile branch, providing education on breast health and the importance of being aware of changes such as lumps or changes to the skin of the breast (e.g. orange peel effect).

Mammography plays an important role in the early identification of breast changes, often before symptoms are noticeable. Early assessment allows for appropriate medical follow-up and informed health decisions.

Women aged 40 and above are encouraged to prioritise their breast health and consider booking a mammogram.

Visit our branches for information on Bayradiology SA mammography services.

Supporting awareness and informed decision-making remains central to promoting long-term breast health.

Mammography Explained: Take Charge of Your Breast Health

Regular mammograms are one of the best ways to detect breast changes early—often before any symptoms appear. Early detection allows for timely medical assessment and management, giving you peace of mind about your health.

A mammogram is a clinically approved, low-dose X-ray of the breast, performed in our controlled clinical setting by trained radiographers. All images are securely stored, allowing radiologists to compare with previous scans and monitor any changes over time.

Ladies, prioritise your health—if it’s time for your mammogram, make your booking today. Taking this step now supports early detection and ongoing breast health.

Today, on World Cancer Day, Bayradiology stands united in the global effort to raise awareness, promote early detection, and support individuals and families affected by cancer.

The theme “United by Unique” reminds us that while every cancer journey is different, we are strongest when we work together — patients, healthcare professionals, and communities — to improve outcomes through timely, accurate diagnosis and compassionate care.

At Bayradiology, we are committed to supporting referring Health practitioners and patients through high-quality diagnostic imaging, recognising the vital role radiology plays in cancer detection, staging, and ongoing monitoring. Our focus remains on providing precise imaging services that support informed clinical decision-making, while treating every patient with dignity, respect, and individualised care.

Early detection can make a meaningful difference. If you have concerns or have been referred for imaging, we encourage you to speak with your healthcare practitioner about the appropriate diagnostic investigations.

Together, through awareness, collaboration, and care, we stand united — respecting every unique story.

Looking After Your Breast Health

Breast health is an important part of overall well-being at every stage of life. Breast imaging plays a valuable role in identifying changes that may not be noticeable on self-examination and assists healthcare practitioners in making informed clinical decisions.

Routine breast imaging, when recommended by a healthcare professional, can support early identification and appropriate management of breast conditions. If you have concerns, symptoms, or a family history of breast disease, discussing breast imaging with your doctor may be an important step in your care.

At Bayradiology, breast imaging is performed by qualified professionals in a respectful, supportive environment, with patient comfort, privacy, and clinical standards as a priority.

If you are due for a check-up or have been referred for breast imaging, we encourage you to take that step for your health.

What to Expect During an Ultrasound Examination

During the examination, a small amount of water-based gel is applied to the skin over the area being examined. This gel eliminates air pockets between the skin and the transducer, allowing sound waves to travel effectively and produce clear diagnostic images. The gel is safe, non-allergenic, easily removed from the skin and, if necessary, clothing, and may feel momentarily cool when first applied.

A trained healthcare professional, known as a sonographer, uses a small hand-held device called a transducer. The transducer is gently placed on the skin and moved as needed, while images are displayed in real time on a computer screen.

Our practice performs external ultrasound examinations only. Most referrals are for musculoskeletal imaging, soft tissue scans, and general abdominal and pelvic examinations. We also offer vascular ultrasound (Doppler studies) to assess blood flow within arteries and veins.

Ultrasound examinations are generally painless. Some patients may experience mild discomfort, for example if a full bladder is required or if pressure is applied over a tender area.

Most ultrasound examinations take up to 15 minutes. Throughout the procedure, our team prioritises patient comfort, dignity, and clear communication.

Welcome to Bayradiology. Our practice provides advanced imaging solutions to the medical community

Ultrasound Imaging: Clear Answers, Advanced Care!

Ultrasound is a safe, painless medical imaging test that uses sound waves to create real-time images of what’s happening inside the body.

During the examination, high-frequency sound waves are sent into the body and gently bounce off organs, muscles, and blood vessels. A computer then converts these echoes into clear images that doctors can use to assess structure, movement, and blood flow.

Performed by trained medical professionals, ultrasound helps doctors assess organs, muscles, and blood flow quickly and painlessly—providing valuable information for diagnosis and ongoing care.

Because ultrasound does not use radiation and is non-invasive, it is widely trusted for diagnosing conditions, monitoring health, and guiding medical care. It is quick, comfortable, and provides valuable information when accurate answers are needed.
