We all need some stress in our lives. Stress is what gives life a sense of excitement or challenge. We might enjoy a long hike, a horror film, pushing ourselves in sports, an exciting job, cooking new foods - these might all be challenges - but they are good, or positive, challenges. They give us a sense of achievement. Negative stress is when we cannot cope with the stress we are experiencing. This might be something out of our control, like the loss of a loved one, or changes at work. And it might be short-term, for example burning a meal just as guests are due to arrive.
So whilst we embrace positive stress, we need to ensure that negative stress does not become locked into our bodies.
