The International Association of Infant Massage was inspired by Vimala McClure, who in the 1970s recognized the profound benefits of massage for children and parents. After living in India and observing traditional care practices, she brought this knowledge to the United States, adapting it for families there.
Vimala did not teach just techniques—she introduced an approach centered on respect for the child, loving touch, and parental support. In 1981, she founded IAIM, which has since expanded to over 70 countries, becoming the world’s largest organization dedicated to infant massage.
Her vision continues to inspire instructors and parents worldwide: a universal language of hands, heart, and relationship.
