Today marks a deeply meaningful milestone at Orthosport.
As Dr Hannes Jonker completes his final theatre list for 2025, he shares the moment with someone central to his surgical journey: his long-time anaesthetist, colleague, and friend, Dr Martin Mulder.
In Dr Jonker’s own words:
“I had the privilege of sharing 15 years in private practice with Dr Martin Mulder, my sidekick and anaesthetist for the very last time.
Over the past 15 years, we have done thousands of cases together. In that time, he has been the definition of a true professional: dedicated, reliable, never late (really…), always prepared, with a calm presence and a great sense of humour.
For me, this is not just saying goodbye to a colleague in theatre. I feel as if I’m saying goodbye to a pillar of strength, knowledge, and support in my practice. Martin has been an integral part of my journey – from the early, uncertain days to where we are now, running a high-volume, highly efficient theatre service.
He is so much more than ‘just’ an anaesthetist. He genuinely cares about our patients, sees the person behind every case, and has served this community for 34 years with quiet excellence and integrity.
As he retires at the end of this year, I want to say a sincere and heartfelt thank you, Martin. Thank you for your mentorship, your patience, your friendship, and for always having my back in theatre.
It has been an honour to work with you.
Wishing you health, joy and many good years ahead in this next chapter. You will be missed – by me, by our team, and by the many patients whose lives you helped change for the better.”
As Dr Mulder steps into his well-earned retirement after more than three decades of service, we honour a man whose professionalism and compassion elevated every theatre he stepped into.
Thank you, Dr Mulder, for the legacy of care you leave behind - a legacy felt not only in outcomes, but in the countless moments of calm, trust, and humanity you brought to each day.
Your impact will be remembered for years to come.
