Chest X-rays help doctors see what’s happening inside your chest.🩻

They are often used to check for:
• Lung infections
• Breathing problems
• Heart size and heart-related concerns
• Chest injuries or rib fractures
• Fluid around the lungs

Because the scan is quick and very effective, it’s often the first step in diagnosing many chest conditions.

Your health and peace of mind are always our priority.

Once your Chest X-ray is done, the radiographer may quickly check the images to make sure they are clear.

If needed, they might repeat a picture — this simply ensures your doctor receives the best possible images.

Next:
🔎 A radiologist carefully reviews the images.
📄 A detailed report is sent to your doctor.

Your doctor will then discuss the results with you and explain the next steps if needed.

A Chest X-ray is very quick and straightforward.🩻

During the scan:
📸 A radiographer will position you at the X-ray machine.
📸 You’ll usually stand against a flat plate.
📸 Two images are taken — one from the front and one from the side.

You’ll be asked to:
• Stand very still
• Take a deep breath
• Hold it for a few seconds

That’s it! The images are captured in just a moment.

The procedure is completely painless, and you won’t feel the X-rays at all.

Preparing for a chest X-ray is simple and takes just a few moments.🩻

Before the scan, you may be asked to:
• Remove jewellery or glasses
• Take off clothing with metal (like zips or buttons)
• Change into a gown

This helps ensure nothing blocks the image of your chest and lungs.

There is usually no special preparation needed — you can eat, drink, and take your normal medication unless your doctor advises otherwise.

💚Our radiographers will guide you through the process and make sure you feel comfortable.

5 Signs You Should Talk to Your Doctor About Heart Screening. ❤

Heart disease doesn’t always announce itself loudly. Sometimes the warning signs are subtle — and early detection can make all the difference.

Have you experienced any of these 5 important signs:

1️⃣ Chest discomfort or pressure – even mild tightness or burning during activity.
2️⃣ Shortness of breath – especially if it’s new or worsening.
3️⃣ A strong family history of early heart disease.
4️⃣ High blood pressure, diabetes, or high cholesterol – even if you feel perfectly fine.
5️⃣ Unexplained fatigue, dizziness, or palpitations.

Modern cardiac imaging, including calcium scoring, CT coronary angiography, echocardiography, and cardiac MRI, helps detect heart disease early — often before a major event occurs.

Women, in particular, may experience less “classic” symptoms, such as fatigue, nausea, jaw, or back pain. Don’t ignore what your body is telling you.

If you’re experiencing any of these signs, speak to your doctor about whether heart screening is right for you.

At Maine Radiology, we’re committed to accurate diagnosis, advanced imaging, and compassionate care — because your heart deserves nothing less.

Women’s hearts don’t always “speak” the same language as men’s ❤️

Heart disease is often seen as a “man’s problem” — but in women, symptoms can look very different. Instead of the classic crushing chest pain, women may experience fatigue, shortness of breath, nausea, back or jaw pain, or just a feeling that something isn’t right.

Hormones, smaller blood vessels, pregnancy history, and even menopause all play a role in how heart disease develops and presents in women.

Different symptoms. Different risk factors. Same need for awareness.
If something feels off, don’t ignore it. Your heart deserves to be heard.

4 February | World Cancer Day 🎗️

Today we stand together in hope, strength, and support.

Radiology and medical imaging play a crucial yet often overlooked role in the fight against cancer. Through mammograms, CT scans, MRI, and ultrasound, we’re able to detect changes early — often before symptoms appear. And early detection can make all the difference.

This World Cancer Day, let’s encourage one another to prioritise regular screenings and check-ups. A simple scan could be a life-saving step.

Here’s to awareness, early action, and supporting every journey with care. 💛
