Glaucoma is often called the “silent thief of sight," because it steals vision slowly, without warning, and without pain. Imagine waking up one day and realising the world looks dimmer, edges blurrier, and precious moments harder to see.

That’s the reality for millions worldwide, and once vision is lost, it cannot be restored. But there is hope: early detection through regular eye exams can stop glaucoma in its tracks. This World Glaucoma Week, let’s stand together to protect the gift of sight, for ourselves, our loved ones, and our communities.

Since glaucoma often shows no symptoms in its early stages, regular screenings are your only line of defence. Book your comprehensive exam with us this month because early detection is the most effective way to preserve your vision. 👁️

20 Billion Reasons to Prioritise Eye Safety.

Did you know that the South African Compensation Fund has paid out over R20 billion in claims recently for preventable workplace injuries? Among these, ocular (eye) injuries remain a major concern because they can lead to permanent impairment, affecting your ability to provide for your family and your quality of life.

This Workplace Eye Wellness Month, we’re breaking down safety by environment.

In the Field/Factory data shows that nearly 90% of ocular trauma cases in certain South African provinces involve young men in high-risk sectors like construction and metalwork. Wearing the correct PPE isn't just a rule, it’s the only thing standing between you and a life-changing injury.

In the Corporate Office eye health is often overlooked in white-collar settings. Poor lighting and screen glare contribute to "Computer Vision Syndrome." A quick ergonomic check and regular eye exams can prevent the headaches and blurred vision that slow you down.

Your vision is your most valuable tool. Protect it with the same care you give your craft. 👁️

Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP) can feel confusing, especially because it often starts quietly. It gradually affects the retina and can impact night vision and side vision first.

There isn’t one cure yet, but early testing and ongoing care can help protect remaining vision and support day-to-day life.

If you have symptoms or a family history, book an eye assessment early.

As Low Vision Awareness Month comes to a close, it’s a good reminder that protecting sight is often about catching things early, not waiting until vision changes feel obvious. 🫴🏽

Diabetic retinopathy can develop quietly, which is why routine retinal screenings matter if you live with diabetes, even when everything seems “fine.” If you have been meaning to book a check, take this as your sign to prioritise it this week. 💙

Diabetic retinopathy can grow quietly in the background, long before it makes itself obvious. High blood sugar over time can damage the tiny blood vessels in the retina, causing swelling or bleeding that slowly blurs and distorts sight. For someone without diabetes, it is hard to imagine how quickly “I will book that check-up soon” can become months, and how frightening it is to realise that vision loss can be gradual, unpredictable, and sometimes permanent. 🫴🏽

That is why awareness matters. A simple eye screening can catch changes early, when treatment can protect vision. It is not only about preventing blindness. It is about protecting someone’s independence, confidence, and ability to keep showing up for the life they have worked so hard to build. 💙
