Happy Wednesday! From me! In an elevator! In Cape Town! Where I got to spend two days helping YL Africa serve their customers and brand partners better.

Can I tell you something? Young Living doesn’t pay me to come to these gatherings. I pay to get myself there and join a think tank of 15 other brand partners to help this natural wellness company serve South African homes better and get their authentic and genuine and highly effective products into as many homes as possible in South Africa. Why? Because I believe in their quality and ability to help support our bodies

I’ve had the privilege of seeing how they not only support my family’s wellness and low tox living goals, but soooo many families in my team and greater community as well. I’ve got stories for days from people I know and talk to all the time.

Coming to these things doesn’t directly grow my business but helping them help you better does. So it’s a labor of love and time and well worth it in my opinion. Like so many moms, my family makes the sacrifice to free me up for two days for you. And I am grateful to them for it over and over again.

I’d love to help you too. Whether it’s getting started with natural options and low tox living, or figuring out how to start a side business to add these amazing products into your monthly budget at little to no extra cost to you, I am here to help you.

How can I serve you?

Here’s an amazing insider tip with this set, the entire bundle costs the same amount as the one oil in it, Peace & Calming, so you know it’s a steal.

Candles are warm, cozy and soothing. Unfortunately, there are some things you need to be aware of when lighting up those seemingly harmless fragrance holders.

Many candles are made from paraffin. Paraffin is a flammable, soft, colourless, waxy solid derived from petroleum. But before it can be made into wax, it must be deodorized and chemically bleached. To put that into perspective, your household bleach at full strength is about 10% but to make paraffin wax, the bleach is at 100%, only adding to the chemical cocktail of toxins that candles already contain.

The dioxins from bleach have been shown to contribute to reproductive and developmental issues, as well as causing damage to the immune system. Also when paraffin wax is burned, it releases toxic volatile organic compounds (VOCs) including benzene and toluene which are known carcinogens.

Soy candles are often made from GMO soy that has been exposed to a cocktail of toxic chemicals. Beeswax is a much safer and cleaner alternative but it is an animal product for those wanting to avoid and be aware, that to be labelled as a beeswax candle in the US, current labeling laws only require a candle to be 51% beeswax, so make sure you are purchasing 100% beeswax candles.

Candle wicks can also be a source of toxins in scented candles. In the US, candle wicks are supposed to be made of cotton or paper, but lead-core wicks can still be found, especially in products manufactured in China or Taiwan. A candle with a lead-core wick releases five times the amount of lead considered hazardous for children and exceeds EPA pollution standards for outdoor air. You don’t even need to light the candle to be exposed to chemicals, simple evaporation from an uncovered candle can release pollutants into the air and touching a candle can cause absorption of chemicals through the skin.

Synthetic fragrances, used in the making of candles, can contain anywhere from 3000-5000 different chemicals, many of which haven't been tested to ensure they're safe for humans. Both synthetic fragrance and dyes are also known to release dangerous VOCs (not all VOCs are bad but many are) such as formaldehyde, petroleum distillates, limonene, alcohol and esters. Each of these chemicals have been known to result in headaches, dizziness, allergy symptoms, asthma attacks, respiratory tract infections and cancer.

One Polish study showed that found the air quality around paraffin candles is similar to air quality around a combustion engine. And I’m pretty sure you’d never consider running a combustion engine in your home!

So what are some alternatives?
*Buy some battery powered candles to give you that warm, flickering effect while diffusing your favorite essential oil scent.
*Use the flicker setting on your Desert Mist or other diffusers.
*Make your own homemade candles. The scent will not be as strong as a diffuser but you get all the warm and cozy.
*Make some reed diffusers with your favorite oil.
*Make a room spray with your favorite oils.
*Make a stovetop potpourri with orange slices, cinnamon sticks, fresh cranberries, cloves, and nutmeg.
* Purchase GMO-free soy-based or beeswax candles – they burn clean and don't contain any harmful fumes, but you have to watch very carefully for the fragrances. They can still contain problematic ingredients.
*Check out the Life Steps App for many recipes for all of the above in our Holiday Handbook and in many of our DIY resources.

I put together some of my fave combos for the SA Lifestyle Kit. I love this set as your on-the-go bestie. It contains five oils that help you in every area of your life.

What comes in this set and why you'll be happy you got it.
1. Digize is your go-to for all things digestion. Constipation, diarrhea or any sort of tummy upsetting food you've eaten, DIGIZE is your BFF. You'll dilute it in a roller bottle half oil and half sweet almond oil to roll on. You can also put a drop from the bottle straight under your tongue to help with indigestion.
2. Peace & Calming is here to bring peace and calming to you and your little ones when all the feelings are taking over, in harried moments with your children or in a stressful situation, a drop of P&C on your inner wrists can help bring you back to a place of calm. It's also perfect in anyone's diffuser at night.
3. Thieves has your back for all the immune system support our bodies need in changing seasons AND germs seem to run around this blend. You can use it neat on a fever blister. You can add a drop to the soap you use in the public bathroom to make sure your hands are clean. A drop in your tea while out on a chilly daily can help keep the germs away.
4. Give Eucalyptus Radiata a try for all the respiratory support in the colder months. Eucalyptus is so helpful in opening up stuffy noses and tighter chests. It's mild enough for your children as well. You can make a roller with this for stuffy noses, or split the bottle 50/50 and top up with a carrier oil(like sweet almond or grapeseed) and apply it to your temples or on your neckline to help open up your airways. It can also be used for aching muscles after a workout.
5. Tea Tree is on your side for all things skin related and any sort of fungal issue you may be experiencing. It's got amazing cleansing properties. Any sort of scrape or cut will benefit from a drop of tea tree on it. Having this one in your bag for the random breakout will make you happy you had it. It can also be highly beneficial for cold sores and mouth ulcers.

I can help you get these into your home. What's app me for help.
