We're joining the global effort for Hepatitis Testing Week to raise awareness and encourage vital screening. Hepatitis C is often called a "silent epidemic" because many people don't know they have it until symptoms appear much later. But the good news is, Hepatitis C is curable and Hepatitis B is vaccine preventable. We especially want to reach out to members of our community who are most affected or at higher risk for Hepatitis C. This includes people who have ever injected drugs and their injecting or intimate contacts.

Visit Sediba Hope Medical Centre this week for your Hepatitis B & C tests! Know your status, take control of your health.

SURVEY OPPORTUNITY

We invite your participation in this important survey, developed in collaboration between the Coalition for Global Hepatitis Elimination (CGHE) and the World Health Organization (WHO).

Two short, voluntary surveys (~ 10 minutes each) are open to gather perspectives from:

1. Perspectives among persons who may benefit from testing for HIV, viral hepatitis and STIs:
This survey seeks to understand the values and preferences of people who may benefit from testing, including those living with HIV, or with prior testing/treatment experience for viral hepatitis or other STIs. Your insights will help determine which testing options are most acceptable and useful for people in need of testing and care: https://buff.ly/Sc2k5V7

2. Healthcare providers:
This survey is designed for providers, including physicians, nurses, midwives, pharmacists, community health workers, peer-workers, and laboratory staff. It aims to assess provider perspectives on the acceptability, feasibility, and potential public health impact of multiplex tests: https://buff.ly/McAjBEC

The information collected will directly inform the development of WHO guidelines on multiplex testing. All responses are confidential, and no identifying information will be collected.

We are incredibly excited about SAHPRA's registration of this long-acting prevention for HIV! This is a monumental step forward in our fight against HIV. This long-acting injectable PrEP offers a new, convenient, and highly effective option, which we believe will be particularly impactful for people disproportionately affected by HIV or at high risk. We look forward to updates on the commencement of roll-out.

South Africa has become the first African country – and our medicines regulator the third worldwide – to register the revolutionary twice-a-year anti-HIV jab, lenacapavir (LEN), that could bring an end to Aids if enough people take it.
