A Biokineticist is a clinical exercise specialist who functions in alliance with other medical professionals, and is recognised by and registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa. Biokinetics is a medically recognized profession which involves the assessment and prescription of physical activity and exercise in rehabilitative treatment to prevent or intervene with certain ailments in order to improve an individual’s physical status and quality of life. The Biokinetics process that I follow, involves a thorough assessment before treatment is started and an individualized treatment plan and goal setting per patient. I believe that patient education is beneficial and that Biokinetics is not only there to help with the rehabilitation process but also to help patients incorporate what is learnt into their everyday lifestyles. I strongly believe that the rehabilitation process should involve a team of medical professionals each with their own specialities.
