Our Story

It was back in 1957 that my father William (Bill) Heath began practicing optometry in Pretoria. In their days the practice was in central Pretoria in Pretorius Street. I, Colin Heath, qualified in 1979 and began there with my dad, and we soon opened the first practice in the heart of Pretoria in August of 1980 in Glenfair Shopping Centre. Marthi Wentzel and I formed a partnership in 1997 and thus the name Heath and Wentzel was formed. In 2007 we opened up our second practice in Hazeldean Shopping Centre. Since then we have dedicated ourselves to providing the most up to date, comprehensive vision care, with emphasis on family eye care. We have extensive knowledge in child vision, vision related learning problems, contact lenses as well as forms of vision corrective care in ageing patients. Marthi Wentzel qualified in 1991 and joined the practice in 1994. Marthi is loyal and committed to all her patients, and has been particularly instrumental in continuing and enhancing the child vision care in the practice. Michael Heath, my son, qualified in 2012 from the University of Johannesburg and we employed him in 2013, to be the third generation “arm” of the business. He brings the necessary flair and balance for the firm and can relate to all the young adults requirements. We look forward to seeing you shortly. Kind Regards

Our Story

The Heath and Wentzel story began back in 1957 – yes 63 years ago!

William (Bill) Heath opened a practice in Central Pretoria. A vibrant and successful practice developed.

In 1979 his son Colin joined the practice and in 1980 a branch was established at Glenfair Lynnwood Manor.

From January 1986 Colin moved full time to Glenfair. From the beginning the emphasis was on family vision care and by working with the Optometric extension program in the USA, behavioral vision was introduced as standard practice.
