Going through a separation or divorce can be and often is, very difficult. It could even feel that the world is turning and to focus on daily tasks takes tremendous amounts of effort.

Dealing with emotions of anger, sadness, helplessness, exhaustion, confusion and anxiety to name a few, can become overwhelming. When the marriage/ relationship involves children, this becomes even more complex as the reality of never ‘escaping’ the other biological parent, is a hard truth to find a way to deal with.

Medico-legal and psycho-legal evaluations utilise applied psychology which uniquely straddles two great fields – the science of human behaviour and the law. The medico-legal and psycho-legal evaluations expert may deal with a variety of clients such as children, the injured, the incarcerated, as well as involuntary clients, each presenting unique ethical challenges. The opinions of such an expert can have significant implications on an individual and the role is not to be taken lightly.
By nature, a medico-legal and psycho-legal expert needs to reflect deeply on ethical questions with each case and also must conduct constant personal training and upskilling to remain at the forefront of the field. Working within this field and as an expert witness in the courts means upholding high integrity, neutrality and professional standards at all times.
