On Human Rights Day, we pause to honour the lives lost in the struggle for freedom and equality in South Africa, and the courage of those who stood up for the rights we enjoy today.
Every patient – regardless of background, gender, age or social standing – has the same right to be heard, informed and treated with dignity, safety and respect.
Plastic and reconstructive surgery is not only about changing how you look; it is also about restoring function, confidence and quality of life, which are closely linked to the right to health and well‑being.
Today, the Professor reaffirms his commitment to:
Provide evidence‑based, ethical care to every patient.
Protect patient autonomy, privacy and informed consent.
Create a welcoming space where no one is judged or discriminated against.
Human rights begin in everyday interactions – in the way we listen, speak and care for one another in the consulting room and in theatre.
May we use this day to recommit to a South Africa where dignity, safety and access to quality healthcare are a reality for all.
