✨ Did You Know? ✨

MAP Movement is built on five recognised movement techniques that support the body’s fascia – the connective tissue essential for posture, stability, and mobility.

The 5 MAP techniques are:
1️⃣ Breathing – multidirectional diaphragmatic breathing.
2️⃣ Breathing creates movement – using breath as the foundation for all movement.
3️⃣ Tilt – a tool for testing strength and mobility in linear movements.
4️⃣ Knee Box – integrating breath and mobility into rotational planes; assessing unilateral glute activation.
5️⃣ Spiral Lift – testing glute contraction in rotation and balance between the upper and lower body.

These techniques help individuals improve movement patterns in a safe, structured way while supporting fascia health.

As a qualified MAP Movement trainer, Janine van Wyk applies these methods within a professional scope of practice, tailoring guidance to each individual’s needs after proper assessment.

📱 Text Neck is Real!

We spend hours looking down at our phones and laptops — putting extra strain on the neck and upper back. This can cause stiffness, headaches, and even long-term spine issues.

✨ Quick Fix:
- Bring your screen to eye level
- Take stretch breaks every 20–30 minutes
- Strengthen your posture with movement

Your neck deserves better than constant forward tilt. Let’s keep it strong and pain-free.

✨ As Women’s Month comes to a close… ✨

It’s the perfect time to reflect on the importance of supporting your health and well-being every day. True wellness for women isn’t measured by the numbers on a scale or the size of your waistline. Instead, it’s about nurturing your body, mind, and overall function through safe and consistent practices.

Physiotherapy and guided movement can play an important role in this journey. Focusing on mobility, posture, flexibility, and strength can help women of all ages maintain independence, reduce discomfort, and feel more confident in their daily activities. Even small, regular movement habits can contribute to a healthier, more balanced lifestyle.

As Michelle Obama wisely said:

“Being a healthy woman isn’t about getting on a scale or measuring your waistline.”

This reminds us that wellness is multidimensional. By incorporating safe exercises, mindful movement, and professional guidance when needed, you can support your body’s natural function and promote overall well-being.

Your physio session is just the beginning. 💪🏼✨

After treatment, gentle movement and stretching can help maintain the benefits you’ve gained during your session. 🩹

Moving afterwards can:
💚 Keep your joints and muscles warm and flexible
💚 Support better circulation for recovery
💚 Reinforce new movement patterns your physio guided you through
💚 Help prevent stiffness from returning

Think of it as “locking in” the progress you’ve made — small, mindful movements can make a big difference in your overall recovery journey. 🏃🏼‍♀️🧘🏼‍♀️

Your physiotherapist can guide you on safe, effective stretches tailored to your needs, so you continue building strength and mobility between appointments. ☀️

What is MAP Movement?

*MAP* stands for Myofascial Activated Postural Movement — a movement therapy that goes beyond just muscles. It’s based on fascia science, focusing on the connective tissue (your fascia) that supports and holds everything in your body together. 🧠💪🏼

Instead of trying to "fix" posture with rigid rules or chasing pain with quick fixes, MAP helps you explore how your body moves — in every direction, every plane. 🌿

Think of your fascia like a 3D wetsuit under your skin. With the right kind of movement and hydration, that wetsuit can regain its bounce, glide, and natural elasticity — so you can feel more at home in your own body again. 🤸🏼‍♂️

MAP is for anyone who’s feeling stiff, stuck, or hesitant to move — whether you live with chronic pain, love to move, or just want to feel better in your everyday body.

It’s not just about treating symptoms. It’s about reconnecting with how your body is meant to move. ✨

What exactly is physiotherapy? 🤔

Most people think physiotherapy is just for sports injuries or post-surgery rehab — but it’s so much more than that.

Physiotherapy is about helping you move better, feel stronger, and live with less pain. It focuses on restoring movement, preventing injuries, and managing conditions that affect your mobility — whether you’re recovering from something, dealing with chronic pain, or just not feeling your best.

From kids to older adults, athletes to office workers — physio meets you where you are and helps you move forward.

It’s not only about recovery — it’s about improving your quality of life.

💚 Physiotherapy also plays a key role in:
• Preventing recurring injuries and disability
• Supporting people with physical impairments to live independently
• Promoting community health across all age groups
• Enhancing well-being at home, at work, and in recreational activities
• And yes — even treating animals with movement disorders!

Whether you’re managing pain, improving mobility, or just want to move more freely — physio is for you.
