Imagine a future where blindness caused by retinal damage could be reversed. Scientists may have just taken the first big step toward that reality.

🔬 A new study has found that blocking a single protein in the eye—called PROX1—can unlock the ability of damaged retinal cells to regrow. In mouse models, this approach not only repaired the retina but also restored vision.

👁️ Why this matters:
- Human retinas normally have very limited repair ability. Once retinal neurons are lost, vision loss is usually permanent.

- By targeting PROX1, researchers essentially removed the “brake” that prevents regeneration.

- This is the first demonstration of long-term retinal regeneration in mammals, opening the door to potential treatments for conditions like macular degeneration, glaucoma, and retinitis pigmentosa.

⚠️ Important note: These results are still in the early stages and have only been tested in mice. Human trials will take time, but the discovery marks a major leap forward in regenerative medicine.
