The why and how of keeping a divorce log 📋

Why? Keeping a post-divorce journal keeps track of all the details - large and small - that might be significant in your divorce. A journal keeps track of the details you'll need to share with your lawyer, mediator, or judge. It's also useful to have on hand in case you and your ex disagree about what day anything happened.

How? It's entirely up to you which format you choose. There is no right or wrong way to do it. The safest method is the one that is most easy for you to use.

Common options to use include:
- Normal pen and paper
- Using a calendar
- App ( there multiple divorce apps on the market)
- On your computer

The divorce process is a very stressful one, The exhausting legal process, countless verbal battles, irreparable heartbreak.
It can all take a massive toll on your mind, body, and spirit.

Here are things you can actively start doing today to better your healing process:

Talk through your emotions in a constructive way 💌
Discussions on why your emotions are warranted may be part of a healthy conversation. Alternatively, what you're doing to solve them. Or why, after the divorce being finalized, those emotions persist.

Make use of social media to reconnect with old acquaintances 👥
One of the undeniably strongest the use of social media is the potential to reconnect with old and current mates.
Regardless of how long you've been married, there will always be people with whom you've lost touch over time. If variations in habits, hobbies, or attitudes emerged, or life just got in the way, these old contacts are still available to you.

Surround yourself with quality friends 👫
Assemble a group of friends that are QUALITY.
It's far more about QUALITY than QUANTITY when it comes to forming a supportive social group.
During a moment like this, you need friends who can see all sides of the coin. There are friends who know how to assist you, but also when to do daily "reality checks" or "gut checks" for you.

Be grateful 🙏
There’s something about gratitude that brings the best out of you. Yet it’s so hard for people to remember to be grateful on a daily basis.

How to prepare for a divorce? 📝

Except under the best possible cases, divorce is an exhausting experience that can bring unprecedented improvements to your life, as someone who has gone through it will attest.

Divorce is a difficult process. It can be a shambles. It can contribute to a mental and financial overload, taxing you in a variety of ways until Sunday.

Here are a few things you can do in order to prepare yourself for the divorce process:

1. Get a game plan
Make sure the marriage is over by doing some soul digging. Divorce, like marriage, is a serious decision that can not be taken lightly. You are permanently altering your life.
If you're certain there's no chance of redemption, press on, but do so with the gravity that a divorce necessitates. Identify your goals and priorities.

2. Understand the Laws
Do your homework. What you don't know will hurt you in a divorce, particularly when it comes to legal matters. You don't need to know every single law and regulation in your country, but you'll be doing yourself a disservice if you don't spend any time learning about the most crucial aspects of your upcoming legal fight.

3. Face Your Financial Situation
Divorces are expensive, so plan accordingly. Your decision on how to proceed would have a significant effect on the cost of your divorce. The more agreeable you and your family are, the less expensive the experience would be.

4. Taking Control over The Mind
Prepare yourself for a firestorm. It's coming, and the best you can do is try to be as prepared as possible. You will have bad days, even worse days, and downright bad days, but you will get through them. Stuff can improve over time.

Ever heard of collaborative divorce?
Collaborative Divorce is a procedure through which you and your partner both have your own Collaborative Divorce counsel and work on the problems in each case using a technique known as "interest-based negotiation," which allows couples to develop arrangements that rely on their most significant person and collective objectives.

When two people decide to get a divorce, it isn’t a sign that they ‘don’t understand’ one another, but a sign that they have, at least, begun to. - Helen Rowland

Don't make these mistakes with your friends and let them drift away when you need to keep them close during your divorce!

Tips from successful leaders on how they maintain a positive approach in their role :

*New business/leadership tips every Thursday 🙂*

Tip 5
Give yourself credit. We are very good at identifying what we do badly and focussing on the mistakes we have made, but it is really important to take time out to recognise what we have done well. At the end of each day take a few minutes to write down 3 things that have gone well for you that day. In a short period of time you will find this exercise helps you refocus your mindset to one that seeks out the positives in a situation allowing you to identify solutions to the challenges you face.

Tip 6
Work on visualisation. Picturing what you want or the person you’d like to be can be a great motivator and help you identify the steps you need to take to achieve your goal. This is a technique used by many people in the world and is extremely successful in helping achieve success..
