Today I was busy creating AAC overlays and adapted learning materials for my learners with Profound Intellectual Disability (PID).

At this stage, you don't tell them that they are pronouncing a word "wrong", you just keep modeling the correct word until they pick it up themselves and try to learn it.
Here we were learning names of our family members but decided to throw in a new word "teacher".

👶 Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (EHDI) 👂
Did you know that every newborn should have a hearing screening before leaving the hospital?
The EHDI program helps ensure that babies with hearing loss are identified within the first month of life and receive appropriate intervention by 6 months of age.
Unfortunately, in my experience as an Audiologist, many children are only suspected of having hearing loss around age 3, when they are not speaking like their peers.
If your little one wasn’t tested at birth, do not wait until communication delays appear. Visit your nearest Audiologist or public hospital and get their hearing checked early 💙

Today we send a shout out to this princess.
In 2021 her mom was very concerned that she was not responding to sounds and not speaking while her peers were already speaking in sentences.

Hearing tests and other assessments were done and later that year our girl received her hearing aids and it has been amazing watching her grow 1 word at a time. Now mommy is even complaining that she doesn't keep quiet 😄😄.

A big shout out to the Early Childhood Intervention teams that have worked with her 🦻🏾🦻🏾
We love you baby girl, keep breaking those barriers 🌸🌸🌸
