A few weeks ago Jane Abi Atmeh and I had the pleasure of running a couples workshop at International House Leuven. International couples often carry more weight as they navigate life abroad.

Today was a big, memorable day. After 9 years in Belgium and 10 years of Satori Health Centre Pretoria (South Africa), we are moving into our own group practice space in Vaartstraat 68 Leuven (Belgium).

Over the last 3 years Satori Leuven has grown from one psychologists and one intern to 8 psychologist and 6 interns. All serving the international and expatriate community in Leuven and surrounding areas. We moved from therapy in 2 languages to therapy in 9 languages.

I am deeply thankful to Leon Jacobs for his support - and especially for his tech and advertising knowledge and help! Thank you for easing my panic and overwhelm with your problem solving mind. And to Christi Gadd Clinical & Neuropsychologist, I would not have been here today without your incredible belief in me, us and what we do. Our shared passion. Thank you for being my sanity, my sound board, my motivation, my best friend, my colleauge and my biggest cheerleader. Thank you also for holding me accountable in such a kind and caring way! I wish you were here with us today!

Thank you Lian Olivier for being my extra hands and sometimes mind! All your help and patience is deeply appreciated!

We’re celebrating 10 years of Satori today!

Today we celebrate a decade of holding space, offering care, and walking alongside our community in moments of growth, healing, and transition.

Thank you to every client, colleague, intern, and partner who has been part of this journey.
Your trust, your stories, and your courage are the heart of Satori.

We are our relationships! Our Pretoria team celebrated with a focaccia making and focaccia art workshop. We learned a new skills and also took time to reflect on our Satori stories and what we would like to leave as a legacy in the system.

We often think relational conflict is about *the issue* — politics, parenting styles, how the dishwasher is loaded.

But in couples and families, what causes pain isn’t that we see the world differently — it’s that we don’t make room for each other’s *otherness.*

This week in my New York Times column, I respond to a grandmother worried about expressing her faith around her atheist daughter-in-law and new grandchild.

As I write: “This might seem like a difference about faith, but I think this is fundamentally an issue about the freedom to be authentic.”

Today, on his birthday, we honour Prof. Charl Vorster.
As the developer of Interactional Pattern Analysis (IPA) and the master mind behind the Integrative Interactional approach, Charl has made a profound and lasting contribution to psychotherapy. He co-founded (with Larissa Ernst) the Satori Centre for Psychotherapy Training—laying the foundation for what became Satori Health Centre, a practice grounded in these principles.

Charl, your legacy lives in our sessions, our trainings, and our community. Thank you for the clarity, compassion, and rigor you’ve brought to our field—and for reminding us that the quality of our relationships shapes the quality of our lives.
