Counsellor in Sexuality - Pretoria area
Leanne Burroughs/Steyn (leannesteyntherapy@gmail.com)
Professional experience as a Therapist:
I first started under the company name, Purple Feather and now practice under Leanne Steyn Therapy. I saw a need with women; needing guidance, education and assistance with sexual and relationship problems. I also see couples for relationship counseling and intervention. I handle cases with children and sexual development questions that parents do not feel adequate to handle or discuss. I also see trauma cases and day to day stressors and events that people need to speak about. I teach / lecture groups of people on various topics within the field and appear as a guest speaker at functions. Through my personal experience, leading into personal study into high and special needs children, I have also been approached by parents with similar circumstances; and serve as a therapist to the parents with the adaptation and acceptance phase following their childs' diagnosis. One of our graduates! Doing so well after COVID.

Ask for help when you need it. We all have moments when we get discouraged and feel overwhelmed. Try to remember that you don’t have to travel this journey alone. If you don’t have a good support network already, consider reaching out for help and searching for other folks who have traveled down this road.

Word from Lynett:
Relationships and Sexuality are two critical points in determining life satisfaction. How we experience life and how we are experienced in return. Our desire is to experience our relationships and our sexuality, separately and as influencing factors on each other, as authentic, fulfilling, life-inducing and free from guilt, shame and fear. Sometimes, this is easier said than done be that due to traumatic experiences, lack of self-esteem and/or sexual self-esteem, rigid belief systems, lack of knowledge, relational issues, or other factors. We can’t always resolve these issues ourselves.
My motto to couples is “check in before you check out”.
As a community, we’re experiencing a period of extended uncertainty with no clear coastline in sight. This exacerbates our coping mechanisms and increases conflict. Relationships are suffering. We, as a community, are suffering. We’re negotiating uncharted terrain as individuals, partners, parents, professional individuals, and providers. Counselling is a phenomenal way to break the isolation and create connection.
