Is Your Workout Helping Your Injury or Hiding It?! If you have ever left a general Pilates class feeling sore rather than supported, you aren't alone. While fitness Pilates is great for general conditioning, it often lacks the medical specificity needed to heal complex injuries or correct years of poor movement habits.
At our clinic, Physiotherapist and Functional Medicine Practitioner Jenny Hague uses Clinical Pilates as a diagnostic tool, not just a workout. 🧠 It’s about Brain Training: We focus on "feedforward activation"—retraining your brain to switch on your deep stabilizing muscles (like the Transversus Abdominis) milliseconds before you move. 🔬 Medical Precision: Unlike a generic class, we assess your specific pathology—whether it's chronic back pain, post-surgical recovery, or pelvic floor dysfunction—to prescribe a program that protects your tissues while building strength.
Don't just move; move with clinical purpose. Break the cycle of pain and restore your confidence in your body. Read more: https://wix.to/W7oeghy , , , , , , , , ,

How gentle is "Gentle"? Unlike deep tissue massage, Craniosacral Therapy uses an incredibly light touch—about 5 grams, or the weight of a single nickel. Why so light? By placing hands gently on the skull or sacrum, our therapists "listen" to the body's subtle rhythms to detect and release restrictions in the fascia (connective tissue). This helps shift your body from "fight or flight" into deep relaxation and restoration. Perfect for those sensitive to heavy pressure. We are excited to announce a new integration into our practice: Craniosacral Therapy (CST)! 🌿
As part of our commitment to holistic care, we are now offering this gentle, hands-on technique designed to complement your rehabilitation. Whether you struggle with chronic pain, headaches, or the physical toll of stress, CST offers a non-invasive pathway to relief.
The Functional Medicine Toolkit: Transforming Stress with Lifestyle & NutritionFM interventions are built on foundational lifestyle changes designed to restore HPA axis balance. This toolkit focuses on shifting cortisol levels and enhancing resilience:🧘 Lifestyle for Shifting Cortisol: Regular Physical Activity is considered a cornerstone, actively helping to "turn off the cortisol pump". Prioritize Sleep Hygiene (consistent schedule, avoiding blue light). Practices like meditation, yoga, and deep Breathing Exercises activate the vagus nerve, signaling relaxation.🍎 Targeted Nutrition: Emphasize low-Glycemic-Load, whole foods to stabilize blood sugar and break the stress cycle. Replenish depleted stress-coping nutrients like Magnesium and B-vitamins. Use Adaptogenic Herbs like Ashwagandha and Rhodiola to enhance nonspecific resistance to stress.🗣️ Emotional Techniques: Utilize skills like Grounding (refocusing on senses) and Unhooking (naming difficult thoughts) taught in the WHO guide, Doing What Matters in Times of Stress.Which tool are you prioritizing this week?

Thoughtful Thursday: Aging and Functional Fitness 🌟
Welcome to another episode of our Thoughtful Thursday segment! This week, we explore the rapidly growing demographic of people aged 60 and above. Did you know that by 2050, the number of people in this age group is expected to nearly triple? The "oldest old" group, those aged 85 and over, is the most rapidly expanding segment.
A significant challenge we face is maintaining independence as we age. Functional independence is closely linked to physical fitness, which is defined as the ability to carry out daily tasks with vigor and alertness, without undue fatigue, and with ample energy for leisure activities and unforeseen emergencies.
In this episode, we discuss how physical fitness is determined by several measurable health-related phenotypes, primarily cardiorespiratory fitness and muscle function. We explore the physiological changes associated with aging that impact the cardiorespiratory and vascular systems, as well as skeletal muscles. Importantly, we highlight how regular exercise can attenuate these declines and promote multi-system health.
Join us as we uncover valuable insights from current research and provide practical tips to help maintain functional fitness and independence at any age.

I began practicing in 1992, after graduating from Wits University, and currently have practices at Anglo American Standard Bank as well as Healthworx-Cresta. Our practice is committed to continuous development so that we can remain on the forefront of patient health improvement.
Our team upholds a high standard of quality care by adopting a ‘hands on’ approach to physiotherapy assessment and treatment, while striving to keep patients pain free and to improve their overall quality of life. I have always had a passion for functional medicine which is a systems biology–based approach that focuses on identifying and addressing the root cause of disease. Each symptom you experience may be one of many contributing to your illness.
We passionately believe that this includes empowering our patients to take control of their own health through education, knowledge around their condition and continuous and ongoing support from the team here are JHI Inc.
It's not all just about pain management and rehabilitation
Injury rehabilitation is a core skill of our team, but we place an equally big focus on the prevention of injury and the overall health and well-being of our patients.
My team and I understand that the underlying cause of pain is the interrelationship of the individuals genetic make- up, their environment and their lifestyle. This helps us treat the cause and not simply the symptoms. We know that the health benefits of movement and physical activity, good nutrition and correct supplement support lie at the heart of prevention and this has led us to yet another exciting development at the practice.
It’s all about a Continuum of Care for our patients
Massive strides in technology has allowed us to create a digital “Ecosystem” with YOU our patient at the centre. We believe that achieving your optimum health is a journey, and we are there to walk it with you.
