Breede River Hospice Breede River Hospice in Robertson is a beacon of care and support to patients suffering life threatening and life limiting illnesses.

Breede River Hospice in Robertson cares for patients with life threatening illnesses throughout the Langeberg sub-district - including the towns and communities of Robertson, Nqkubela, Ashton, Bonnievale, Zolani, Montagu and McGregor and the entire surrounding area. We provide holistic, home based Palliative Care to patients who, most commonly, are diagnosed with Cancer, HIV/Aids, chronic illnesses and Tuberculosis. On average we care for 370 patients at any given time. Our care is provided at the home of the patient by a team of trained and passionate professionals and wonderful volunteers. This team consists of a doctor, social workers, spiritual counsellor, care-givers, bereavement volunteers and care-giver volunteers. We are one of 24 member hospices, of a total of 189 nationally, to have been awarded 5-star Certification from our national umbrella body, The Hospice Palliative Care Association of South Africa (HPCA). Each member hospice is responsible for raising its own funds and giving care appropriate to their communities.

🌡️ It’s Paediatric Surge Season (PSS) in the Western Cape. 🧸

From November to May, rising temperatures bring a higher risk of diarrhoea and gastroenteritis in children. At Breede River Hospice, we know that staying informed saves lives.

🚨 Watch for signs of dehydration:
• Dry or sticky mouth
• Few or no tears when crying
• Sunken eyes or lethargy
🧼 Prevention is key:
• Wash hands regularly
• Sterilize feeding equipment
• Avoid undercooked seafood
💧 Treatment:
If your child has diarrhoea, seek medical help immediately. Oral rehydration solutions are the first line of defense—give these as soon as symptoms appear.
Stay vigilant this season to protect our little ones from severe dehydration. 💙

Today is World TB Day – a time to renew our commitment to ending tuberculosis. But ending TB means more than curing those who can be cured; it also means caring for those who face advanced or drug resistant TB with compassion and dignity.
That’s where Breede River Hospice makes a difference every day.

Through our integrated home based care model, we bring palliative care directly to patients in the Robertson community. Our team manages pain, relieves breathlessness, provides emotional and spiritual support, and walks alongside families – all in the comfort of the patient’s own home.

For a person with advanced TB, being able to stay at home, surrounded by loved ones, with expert care just a visit away, is a gift. It reduces the burden on hospitals, prevents isolation, and honours the value of every life.
This World TB Day, let’s remember: Palliative Care is an essential part of the TB response.

On this Human Rights Day, we honor the courage of those who stood against injustice at Sharpeville in 1960. We celebrate the democracy their sacrifice built.

Today, in 2026, we also celebrate Eid al-Fitr—a day of peace, charity, and compassion. 🌙

At Breede River Hospice, our mission is rooted in the same values: the undeniable right to dignity, comfort, and compassionate care. True humanity is measured by how we treat the most vulnerable among us.
